I have a 6mil sp Caldari combat character that I use for PvE and fleet PvP. I'd like to make an alt designed for some solo pvp/piracy.
My questions:
1) What race would people recommend, and why?
2) What ships would you recommend I work toward?
3) What support skills are essential?

I like trolls. With all their strength and huge character models they can be pretty intimidating in pvp. Probably second I'd go with elves because sometimes I feel soft and bright-eyed like that. I'd never play a half-ling, mostly because my ex looks like one in real life.
Otherwise train the alt in drones and repair/ecm systems. He'll be useful as an alt scout for your pvp character and you'll be able to leave him afk a bit longer if you're nutty enough to play two characters at one time. Say, he can repair or be cloaked in system while your main pounds the enemy.

Look, I want a character than is decent at ganking, and will allow me to jump on for a couple hours and do some faster-paced solo pvp without having to worry about sec status and the like. I really don't want to play both simultaneously - that just sounds like a great way to lose 2 ships very quickly.
What race's ships are best for this? My initial thought is Gallente, but I can see an argument to be made for minmatar as well - I just don't know other race's ships that well. Like I said, I'm pure Caldari.

Choose the race of your corp's CEO. The reason is that he may only have trained Ethnic Relations to level 2 or 3, so having another employee of his own race enables the corp to open up positions for characters of other races.
As for ships, try training Gallente. Hybrids and drones are a great starting skill set.

Wow, with that kind of mental sharpness you'd be smarter to stay away from minmatar. Stick with the races that are win-button friendly with drones and missiles. The advice given about the CEO's race is smart and don't be quick to discount having a cloaker scout for the corp. You can still get your pvp fix with a recon or bomber.

I fly all races, i much prefer minmatar on a frigate-cruiser-battlecruiser level, but gallente on a bs level, i suggest your caldari char train for a falcon

Okay, so I think I'm going Gallente.
What route should I take ship-wise? It seems like their are two tracks: Vexor-Myrm-Domi and Thorax-Brutix-Megathron. Which is better for solo-gank?

I'd suggest Thorax-Brutix-Mega
Train for ECM drones, they dont need much SP but they're effective

Not really, they arn't very strong, can be used by battle ship shield tankers that can't afford putting a web on, I think
