Performance improvement should be waaaaaaaaaaaaaay on top of their list. If they have a superdome supercomputer and solved the lag, then I can get excited about catching a bus or standing in queue.

1: I'm not to sure what's up with that but a simple fix is switch to a longer skill when you know you'll be away when a skill finishes. Quite simple.
2: For the clone of me I can't remeber where exactly I saw it but CCP has said they aren't planning to implement Interbus as they don't want to collapse a large chunk of the Courier Contract system. (If you pay a good rate it works)

Ever been in a car accident or had your computer fried by a lightning strike? In my experience you can't always be there to change skills. Being able to set a skill (instead of needing to grind XP for all eternity) is one of my favorite features of EVE. That it feels less than complete isn't fully satisfying though.

Skillque (or skillqueue for the l33t) have most likely not been implemented because skillMANAGEMENT is a major part of the game.
And for that reason, I dont want skillqueue to be introduced.
Interbus. I dunno. but I am very sceptical to any work you can delegate to NPCs. After all this is a PvP game.

Have Interbus services cost Interbus loyality points. That way dedicated couriers can use those services to easier do their job and not everybody will use Interbus. Would also give those Interbus agents and LPs some use.
1) Get LPs 2) Accept courier contract 3) Use LPs to move the package 4) ???? 5) Profit -------- Ideas for: Mining Clouds

The only way I've ever seen presented that will solve the jita problem. Yet nothing but stop-gap measures have been instituted, as evidenced by Jita's current state.

I agree.
Interbus = R.I.P. Courier Profession.
I still maintain however, that if the courier contracts were more lucrative the profession would be far more viable. It boggles the mind to see how incredibly miserly many players are in the rewards they offer for their courier contracts. Not to mention the absolutly ludicrous collateral asked to be fronted by the haulers.
I post courier contracts frequently and I pay VERY well. I also keep the collateral fair. I have never waited more than 2 hours for a contract to be picked up. Most go in half-hour or less.
I wanted to be hauler/courier runner when I first started playing EVE...still do..but it soon became apparent that this game is full of tightwads.

or they just set collateral at 10x the item's value in the hope the poor sod doing the hauling gets ganked. or make sure he does.
perhaps the contracts should be negotiated through a courier's union (superbus!) which imposed a max % collateral and a min ISK reward for it's employees (players!) based on all sorts of complicated formulae and market values.
actually, i think i just saved courier missions. hooray \o/ Signature removed. Too large and flashing signatures are not really permitted. Navigator |

People actually take courier contracts?
Can you give me a baseline of what you normally pay? Is it per jump or what?
I think for a freighter run, 1 mil per jump in highsec is fine.

Edited by: Dr Qu on 06/03/2008 20:23:13 I very very very much agree with the first point being asked for. Skillqueue. There is absolutely no reason for it not to exist.
Make it so that the skillqueue is only active if the account is valid and payed for, and you rid yourself of people setting a skillqueue the day before an account expires.
Having a skillqueu will not touch the core of what EVE is today. I seriously doubt it will remove any substance from the precious PvP l33tn3ss of the game some people toot and scream about when they try to kill ideas like this. Unless factual points in how it will affect it negatively is presented.
A skillqueue does -not- equal WoW. Any such claims are just utterly stupid. A skill queue is just that, tool in where you can add either a long list of skills, or be limited to perhaps 2-3 skills.
Someone posted some ludicrous statement that EVE is all about skillMANAGEMENT. Well, with a skillqueue it still it. The management is not about sitting staring at the last 9 minutes of a skill ticking down though. The management is about training up the right skills and not spreading your skills around like a madman.

I think for a freighter run, 1 mil per jump in highsec is fine.
Price per Jump is the way to go. I price my courier contracts as follows.
200k to 250k per jump for Empire contracts. For Empire to 0.0 or Low-Sec contracts or vice versa I double it.
I set collateral at the average sale price for products in the region of the contracts origen. I do not inflate collateral. A fair collateral assessment is the key factor on whether or not the contract gets accepted quickly,in my experience.
NOTE My price offers are fixed irregardless of the volume of the shipment. I have however negotiated in "special" circumstances. 90% of my shipments fall into the capability range of a Badger,on rare occasions a Badger II.
NOTE My contracts(99%)consist of standard bulk items. Examples: Standard missles,Rocket Launcher 1 etc. I almost never offer contracts for named items,Tech II or other expensive or rare items. I prefer to transport myself.
Tipping Policy I always tip a pilot for a successful run into low-sec or 0.0. My usual tip is 10% of the contract offer.
I hope this helps
Cheers

Collateral is high because the cargo can be lost or stolen. Payments are low because the profit margins need to be maintained.
If the cost to have someone haul something consumes the profit margin, then I'll haul it myself. To keep my cost reasonable, to maintain my profit margin, I have to pay less - but that less pay increases the risk because I am also forced to demand a high collateral. That high collateral makes the risk for the reward much too high.
The same is true for people who are not into trade but found a bargain in some remote system. If the margin on the bargain is going to be consumed by the reward of the contract - then the bargain is not a bargain at all.
If we want the courier business to thrive, then we need to get rid of collateral, get rid of the option for couriers to look inside packages and if the courier's ship blows up or the mission is failed in anyway, then the package is automatically returned to the originating station. In other words - remove the need for collateral.
Contracts need to be worth the time and effort and risk to both parties, right now most of the risk is placed on the courier player. If risk is pushed to the contracting player, then the contracting player isn't going to use the contracts either.
Remove the collateral risk for both parties and the courier business will take off.

That any task of moving object X from point A to point B must be performed by a player is, unfortunately, a core element in the grind of CCP's game.
Like skill training, it seems to be one of the non-negotiable foundations of gameplay for Eve.
Take this away and that is one less core element of gameplay people get (have) to do. If we weren't worrying about how to get X from A to B for roughly 33% of the time we spend logged in, it would be like the emperor's clothes falling off.
Personally I like to think that a nice automated transit system, ala the system of transit drones I've suggested before, would really free folks up to concentrate on more exciting aspects of the game, such as mining

We dont need some courier service, and we dont need a skill queue. Also, learn to spell the damn thing before you cry for it.
These two things are not there because they're not necessary. We have othe rplayers willing to move our stuff for us. Skill training shouldnt get any easier, it's already fool-proof through the many 3rd party services and programs out today.
If you can't manage your skills after using programs such as EveMon, and your own common sense, leave the game to people that already enjoy it as it is in peace.
What it sounds like is you're looking for that big red "Easy Button" so you dont have to make any effort.

Your assessment is 100% correct from a certain angle. I however am working a different angle, and the one angle that you forgot to include is TIME.
I am a bargain hunter, not a manufacturer. If I come across a bargain I will buy the whole lot....rinse and repeat until I get a sizeable shipment amassed in my hangar.
I will then contract the entire shipment to my destination of choice. I set the collateral to cover the exact price of what I bought the entire shipment for.(I keep records) I lose exactly nothing if the shipment is lost or stolen.
If my shipment destination is say 25 jumps from Jita to a 0.0 NPC station in the time it takes the hauler to make the trip safely,I have run, looted and salvaged 2 or 3 level 3 missions. Far more than enough ISK not to mention LP to cover all conract expenses. I profit because I don't spend my time doing it,or risk my ship and implants because I'm in a slow and clumsy ship.
If the contract is successful,I will leisurly make my way down to the station in a fast/cloaked ship usually just after server restart(the bubble bandits usually aren't set up yet)and place my shipment on the local market.
I usually sell the shipment for between 8 and 12 times what I paid for it...sometimes even more. If I lose the shipment..Oh well...nothing ventured nothing gained and nothing lost.(not even my time)
Cheers

2. No thank you. Moving stuff around with risk to yourself and your cargo is a core element of the game.

As for interbus. I think a lot of people are forgetting, not just the courier profession, but also what about traders?
For example if someone sees a module that is cheap, they can just pay for interbus to collect it for them. Where as if the module was in the same system, they would probably pay a premium for the convenience. So unless it is balanced in this regard, I dont think its a good idea.
