So I found a nice quiet deadend .4 System 22 jumps from Jita in Amaar space, far from any mission hub.
I plan on using a couple Corparate hangar arrays and a Ship Maintence array to mine the massive roids in the system with my 3 accounts.
How likely is it that someone will come through and decided to scan for POS's (mine would be the only one in the system) and then decided to kill mine even though I don't have any Labs?
What sort of defenses would I need to set up to deend it agiasnt small attackers?
Thanks

Highly unlikely that someone will take the time to attack it just because. Esp in 0.4 where you can't moon mine. Even with labs it's unlikely that they will attack you. More likely they'll just come in and blow up your miners in the belts for fun and profit.

Sadly you just raised the chances for you POS to get noticed because you posted so much detail info on these forums about its location, anyone with a route planning tool can figure out what the possbilities are 22 jumps from Jita (especially when you pin it down further as being in Amarr space).
Now its just a matter of comparing 22-jump routes from Jita that end in Amarr space and going and scanning. :-) It is best not to give too many specifics when making those kinds of inquires. There are lots of bad people that would just view this as an opportunity.

Well, given the above posters response, which in retrospect I agree with, what sort of defenses could make a small POS not worth attacking?
I guess what I am getting at is, how can I repel or deter the griefer who wants to come in and smash my POS?

One slight problem assuming that you are planning to launch the POS with the corp you are currently in - you aint got the standing to launch in 0.4

Hehheheh... challenge accepted!
I would totally do a small pos in 0.4 just to try and get a ransom out of you. There's nothing that you can put on a tower of that size that could make even just a couple of caps do anything other than break out the lulz.
Medium and above and you're probably going to be ok.
Probably.

Lots of shield hardening arrays... you wont be able to fit enough guns to really threaten anyone on a small, but the hardening arrays make the worst part of POS warfare (the time it takes to get through the shield) that much worse... ç¦ |

First off, edit your post and take the details of your location out. This is the kind of question you post with an alt and never give that kind of detail out again.
As for what the risks are, as have been stated, ransom is the biggest. There are several corps out there that do nothing but find corps with low sec or even high sec POSes and wardec them for ransom. Depending on the size of the POS they may or may not be able to put you into reinforced.
As for what you can do about this, well, it goes back to how you protect your house. Get a big dog. In the case of Eve, I'd try to make friends with some PVP corps or alliances that you can hire to come fight anyone who wardecs you.

And if its the one I'm thinking of..I'll wager its gone in a week. There is a pirate corp out there that will hammer it just because its there.

There is no need for a POS if you just want to mine low-sec asteroids. Just put scouts on the transit gates into the next system with a station, and haul your ore to that station. A POS as glorified mining base is wasted money.
The only reason to put a POS in 0.4 is to anchor a Large Ship Assembly Array and crank out capital ships faster than NPC stations can build them. All other POS activities are better done in 0.5+ (research, copying, ...) or 0.3- (moon mining, reactions, ...).

Meh, pies are lazy ppl because of the profession they choose. Just have a few groups of L/M/S guns anchored around your pos and you'll be fine. Most pies are too busy rakeing in billions per day ganking outside of Jita. Attacking a pos is high risk low reward compaired to the cash you can make ganking.
Why don't you put up a pos in hi-sec? No dreads to bother you there. Its like a free cyno jammer

Luckily I did not end up setting up a POS in the location described in my original post. So if you are looking for a nice quiet place to mine in a .4 system with huge Kernite roids take a look at the systems around "Garisas."
Thanks for the responses, and I will remember not to give out detailed locactions in my next post

I had a POS in an isolated 0.4 system. Note the "had". It was destroyed by some pirates who then "Claimed" the system as theirs. Not that they actually do anything there. Some people will attack you POS just to get POS attacking practice. Some of those that do attack the POS may have big enough ships to matter too.

From my experience. It is very unlikely that you will be attacked. I'm running several POSes in similar system and actually noone is intrested in it. Remember that couple day observations are not revelant because ppl are not sitting in their poses just use it for some mining/production or research. You dont need to be in such POS often. Get familiar with locals which are living there and make some friendship. There is plenty of empty moons in empire, unfortunatly very few good moons in relation to moon mining.
