It would be nice for the planets and such to actually orbit within the solar systems as well, instead of always sitting still.

Edited by: Shaddam V on 07/03/2008 18:45:36 A supernova only happens about 1 time every hundred years in a typical sized galaxy. For all we know they are included in EVE and have just yet to have one go off.
Also, eclipses do happen - just fly behind a planet in the direction of the sun.

do you realise how much destruction a nova causes? The whole system is deep fried basically, surrounding systems will be bombarded with ridiculous levels of radiation (after a few years, radiation is still photon based), sure it looks pretty, but unless you want to wipe out a sizeable pocked of stars (or atleast their solar systems) once in a while i don't think novas are a good idea.
Comets would be awesome though. eclipses happen when an object moves between the observer and the local star, so those are easy to arrange.

Those are effects of supernovae. Note that novae are fundamentally different from supernovae.
