Here's a random idea I had today:
What if wrecking hits, as well as causing large amounts of damage to the ship, caused damage to random modules? This would mean a ship taking damage over an extended period of time would eventually fall to bits, meaning that no tank would be completely invincible. I'm not sure what module HP is like at the moment but it should be scaled by module size so that a carrier won't have its reps or booster disabled by one lucky shot by a frigate. This change would mean that ships do not keep functioning at 100% effectiveness right up until 1% structure as they do currently, and promote tactics other than Primary, Secondary, Tertiary.
On the other hand, Assault Ships could be given a reconfiguration module that reduces the damage of their weapons and simultaneously gives a large boost to their chance of scoring wrecking hits. This could give them a role in fleets and gangs disabling the enemy's heavier ships before they're called primary. -- It's a pity your ship was solar powered! |

This would greatly imbalance the game and make everyone take nanite into battle the tank is supposed to support your structure which protects your modules. And there are no thing such a invincible tanks nothing a neut cant do to an active tank.

Well, the idea would be a change in the balance of the game. The way it works currently, which you described, means that ships remain completely functional right up until they pop. Modules already take damage in very low structure but this is barely implemented as you'll never feel the effects of it unless you miraculously escape. The way it currently works, the most efficient way to deal with any big fleet is to apply lots of firepower to one ship at a time. All that does is encourage blobbing. -- It's a pity your ship was solar powered! |
