I've noticed that lowesec systems tend to usually be in clusters of 5+ systems that are connected to each other in some way with an entrance or two into hi-sec, and sometimes an entrance to 0.0. If you get to -5.0 (or whenever you can't go into empire at all anymore), are you pretty much stuck in the group of lowsec systems your in? ---- In the beginning the Universe was created. NPCs will not pod you so if your desperate you could just make a pod run through hi sec. Shuttles and Interceptors can also get through I believe as the faction police cannot catch them before you warp from the gate, never tried that though. Also I think once you get past -4.5, not -5.0, your not allowed in any hi sec anymore.

you can cyno your ships out in a carrier, and wapr through hi sec in a pod/shuttle pretty easily. while you arent stuck, it will take some work to get out with all your assets.

Ships are more or less stuck in the pocket, interceptors will do ok running through highsec as long as you don't get into 0.9 or 1.0. Shuttles are pretty safe and I've never lost one, and my alt can fly most of the ships I fly... so I can move pretty freely.
There are lowsec pockets of 70+ systems or so... lots of places to go in there ------------

Connected lowsec is rather different from lowsec pockets. Those tend to be "claimed" more or less by local pirates or antipirates , whereas connected lowsec is dominated by roaming gangs that originate from populated mission hubs / highsec interface.
I feel lowsec pockets rather constricting. Connected lowsec lets you move your home whenever you feel like it , and ally or fight with whoever you like with less consequences. Much larger roaming territories mean you can lend battleship assistance for a carrier kill in a different region.
Connected lowsec links Placid , Verge Vendor , Genesis , The Bleak Lands , Heimatar , Metropolis , The Forge , and Molden Heath mostly. I think the largest lowsec pocket (with 0.0 access) is Khanid / Kor-Azor.
