Wierd problem - if I enable premium graphics it runs fine for a while (anything from 50-100 fps on a lvl4 mission depending on how busy it is), then after 5-10 mins the framerate drops to like 10fps and stays there.
Nothing in the graphics settings makes a difference - tried all settings for cache, shadows, HDR, bloom, fullscreen/window etc.
Its not a memory leak - client memory usage is stable and responds to the cache setting with no impact on fps.
Problem does not happen on 'classic' graphics.
Using a Core 2 Duo, 2Gb RAM, 8800 GTS and Vista. Latest drivers installed for everything....
Any ideas?
thanks.

I'm guessing not a common issue then

Sounds like you are overheating. both your processor and graphics card can self throttle down when overheating so as not to crash or die in a fire.
Some hardware monitoring software would confirm, as would improving the cooling in your case.
Good luck!

Also
the latest drivers from nvidia for the 8800 introduced some problems between EVE and Aero that had not existed before. These usually manifest for me in the form of complete uunplayablility when attempting to launch multiple clients, and sometimes when just running in windowed mode.
Try disabling Aero and seeing if that helps as well....easier to check then overheating.
P.S. I have basically the same hardware you do.

I agree, definitely sounds like overheating given the 15 minute onset listed.

This. Nice1, thanks
Just switched it to Vista Basic mode, ran a very busy lvl4 - silky smooth performance all the way
Furthermore the performance seems better than the same hardware was achieving under XP.....

Update - found this to disable Aero automatically on eve startup (do this for 'exefile.exe' in the bin folder)
Linkage
(very handy site btw for Vista tweaks)
