Do you think the Alliance tournament helps recruit pilots to pvp in low sec and 0.0 or does it hurt it by allowing folks to get their pvp fix without unnecessary risk?
With the popularity of this tournament and the possibility of more frequent tournaments do you see pilots becoming professional arena pilots and ignoring 0.0? __________________________________________________

they'll need 0.0 to get the practice in or they get owned.

don't think so, if you think about it, most teams lost a massive amount of money playing in the tourney. I don't think it will change much, plus this is the 5th year.

I know its as if the other 4 tournament totally destroyed pvp as well.
I think you're a touch paranoid, or a odd form of troll can't be sure

Erm, people are risking a LOT more playing in the tourney, what with all those faction Battleships... ...

I'm struggling to understand how one leads to the other. In fact, imho the opposite is true. I'm a hardcore carebear and even I was on the verge of running off to 0.0 to join in all the fun . I think the tourney is pretty good overall. I think the Eve TV thing is hilarious. I mean the way the commentators take it all so seriously. There's a philosophy term paper in there somewhere on existentialism and video games .

I'm hard pressed to call it a fix if the addiction to PvP makes you shoot up once every six months.
The tournament if anything is getting more of our newer members interested in shooting people.
Should/would/could have, HAVE you chav!

Edited by: Asestorian on 09/03/2008 21:39:26 The previous tournaments have had no such effect. I also can't see CCP running tournaments any more regularly than they already do, because it's a lot of effort. It also doesn't help recruit anyone because tournament PvP and "real world" PvP are so different.
Also, you should consider how much it costs to compete in these things: you need to create an alliance, which costs 1bn ISK; then you need to enter the tournament, which costs 1bn ISK (though this is refunded if you turn up to all your matches), and then you need to pay for the ships and modules to fly in it. There's plenty of risk in these tournaments.
I can't see anyone becoming a "professional arena pilot" because the tournaments don't happen often enough to make it worth their while. Your whole concern is pretty ill-thought-out.
