i have 2 problems if truth be told
1st is development server - it tells me i have incorrect password and, obviously, wont let me in
2nd is test server - where i can select character but screen just remains black after that...
this is a fresh copy over from my TQ install - with patches applied
any ideas?

I think only devs use development server. <- Wrong
Maybe you're stuck or chaos isn't up re test server ? Could ask a BH to move you on chaos.

development server is the old 'chaos' server so i dont think its a DEV only thing...
Test server is only running 1413 but i am connecting with my chaos-eve at 1417
not sure if that is causing the problem there

Use the password you had before changing it and the dev server should work.

But you need 1417 to get the new loginscreen, otherwise you couldn't connect to the new test server entropy. I had no problems with my chaos installation running on 1417 to get on entropy. But one corp mate had the same problem with the black screen. He has me in his buddy list and saw, that i was quitting, so that showed, that he fully logged in with his char.
Dunno a solution for that :(.

Did you change your password in the last 10 to 28 days? The accounts on the dev server are 4 weeks old, the accounts on the test server 10 days. Maybe this helps.
EDIT: oops, didn't notice that one post you already tried your old passwords.
