Yeah it's that Plave Okice with another RvB thread again, to be fair, it's about time the old threads died anyway.
So I'm sure most of you have heard about this by now, Two Alliances in a permanent empire war, any corp can join either side to fight, any pilot can join any of the two main corps to fight (Red. and Blue.)
Lots of people have been messaging me asking how it's going so I thought I'd write a proper update.
Two months ago we started with 10 v 10, currently we're about 380 v 350, over 1000 pilots in total have been RvB members.
Total kills is difficult to gauge as we use two killboards and of course overall stats were reset when the corps became alliances but there has been over 3500 kills to date.
Total damage again is difficult to judge for the above reasons but there has been well over 50 billion isk of ships worth destroyed and of course much, much more if you add mods and rigs.
We've enjoyed lots of third party wars (we get alot of other people deccing us), sometimes we fight them individually sometimes the alliances fight them together (as purple). Notable mentions in 3rd party wars are Crimson Order and Kernkraft 400 from the early days, more recently Capital Storm, Reavers and Mercenary forces have all brought fights to us and much fun has been had by all sides, I'm glad to say pretty much all smack free, just good fights.
There have been many notable kills, losses and fights, the battleship brawls with Red/Blue, CAPS and MF, the mass RvB frig fights, the fight with Reavers Battlecruiser fleet, the various Purple Ops, the numerous interceptor dogfights and scraps were all great fun. A Kronos, an officer/faction fit Rattler, a Core X repped Hype, a Gist XL tanked Navy Raven and a couple of billion ISK Huginns have all been notable kills/losses that have dropped some juicy loot too.
I know these stats aren't impressive compared to the scale of the big wars, but we're just a bunch of people having fun and hell, 50 billion ISK is a lot of frigs and cruisers. 
We have many more plans as yet, the two HQ's have moved for the fourth time and are now 9 jumps apart encouraging much more roaming, smaller gang action, we'll be looking to stay in our current positions for quite some time, recruitment is still open to both corps and alliances and our active pilot numbers are still on the increase.
I'd like to thank everyone who has been involved, has been in either of the two alliances or who has declared war on us, you've all played a part. I won't start naming names as it's inevitable I'll forget someone but those who have been essential to the success of RvB know who they are.
And while this is to celebrate our first two months it's also to say this is still the beginning, a new RvB website launches very soon where you can read the battle reports and stories around RvB, we're looking to grow all the time and have many more ideas and plans about what we want to do.

Members corps don't have to fly in alliance gangs if that's what you mean, they're free to just fly as corps, we have open policies, people can do what they like.

Must say myself and a few friends that have joined havenĘt had any problems teaming up with others. Its perhaps understandable that sometimes a group of friends or alliance corp would go out hunting together and possibly not accept any one else to their priv gang. But most of the time itĘs free for all and casual gangs floating about pew pawing.

These are base systems though, it's not necceasry for all pilots to live there, we're recommending each side lives within a couple of jumps of their respective HQ in order to not be too far away from the action.

Heh, yup.
In the early weeks at one point Red had 6 active wars including Blue, not that unusual to have 6 wars, although we were all based in the same system which made it kinda hectic.

Btw, I just resigned as CEO so have no roles, does that mean I can join instantaneously?

I haven't seen anything even close to this since I've been in Blue. I do live on the West Coast USA, which isn't exactly the optimal time zone for RvB pew pew, but I haven't seen any "cliques" or elitist behavior of any sort.

Awesome to hear, IMO red vs blue is about the best thing to happen with empire-side pvp since, uh, ever actually. One question though, are the fights all over the cluster or is there like designated warzone regions or something?

So far, RvB has been a blast, even though I haven't had the time I really wanted to put into it.
I've said it to Plave before, but it is worth repeating: Thanks for all the work that's going into arranging all this. RvB has made PvP so much more available to me, and I've met some great people here so far - what else could I ask for? Well, except Plave not constantly begging me to sell him poorly rigged Megathrons

Yup.
I was fighting on day 1 of my alt and had a great time for a few weeks. Then my main Eve business warmed up so I've been flipping skills to fast track to an apoc. Thats whats cools about RvB. Fight when you have the time and not worry about cranky ceos demanding you participate on an op when your other business calls you.

Yup, As Yarr says, just join up, anyone will be accepted, fight as much or as little as you want to. Leave to make some isk, return when you want, whatever.

What range of skill levels do you see fighting? As in, are most chars moderately skilled, or do you see a lot of 1m SPs, or both?
Just to know what my likely kill/death ratio will be atm :)

Dont worry too much about it, as it's in empire there is no bubble then being pod killed is rather rare as u can escape rather quickly

I joined up with Red yesterday and got my first kill last night!
However, I have a couple of questions:
1. Judging from previous posts, I'm guessing that pod killing is allowed then? This is a good thing for me as, because I'm of piratey nature, it's a natural habit for me to automatically go after a pod. I almost did it twice last night...
2. Because of said piratey nature, would I be allowed to go off and do my own thing to neutrals in low sec whenever I wanted? Because, despite the lovely pew pewyness of it all, the war doesn't have the same thrill as pirating because it's "allowed and expected".
3. Would I be allowed to partake in said pirateyness even though Purple Ops could be "on" at the time? Purple Ops isn't something I'm really available for because:
A. Because I'm only in frigs at the moment, I feel like I'm getting thrust into situations that I can't handle.
B. I have a hard time understanding some people on Vent due to differing mic volumes and it's a pain for me trying to follow orders.
So, if Purple's "on", I could go and do my own thing in low sec until it's "off", then I can go back to fighting blues. Would this be allowed?

SP wise we have everything from 900k noobs and noob alts to one guy with 85mill sp, we have many, many pilots in the 20-50 mill sp range. You'll see every type of non capital combat ship flown, gangs often have huge variation in ship types, all are useful.
Pod killing is allowed, it's personal choice, I don't try to pod any blues but will certainly try and pod 3rd parties, most people follow this but not all.
You can do what you like, what we provide is empire war targets to pew pew, if you want to go off and pirate, mission, kamikaze gank then feel free, many of our members do (ouch at the blue who got caught missioning in a 2 bill fit CNR tho).
Purple effectively means that RvB fighting stops and is generally used when large amounts of 3rd parties are around or we fancy a change of pace and jump into 0.0 or wherever. You don't have to join in at all, it just means that during purple times you don't shoot reds/blues.

I will be joining soon but before i do i wondered if any one could tell me if there are many player from either Australia or NZ and if so what side has the most active players from this TZ.
I am wanting to join so i can improve my skill in small gang PvP so i am looking to join in with a very good FC so i can see how a good small gang FC does his work, so any info on what side has an good Australian FC would also be a big help.
and a final question is. If there is a purple OP underway that is heading to my current corps 0.0 region will it be frowned upon if i do not join (i dont want to burn any bridges that will impact my ability to earn isk to fund my future R v B fun or harm my current corps rep with there alliance)

i've just started up and I'm a fairly new player (just hitting 1 mill sp). i'm training up destroyers so i can shoot more guns at once than the regular frigates. rvb is very fun for the pvp minded (though tbh i haven't got a killmail yet  !

With all seriousness, this is a great idea and I've loved it since I've first heard about it. Now, having shown my enthusiasm for the idea, I'll let you know why I haven't joined up yet.
The one thing I've been waiting for is Faction Warfare from CCP. It's a great idea, and very similar to what RvB is doing. Now, I'm glad to see that RvB has evolved to alliance warfare, but whats the next step?
What I think should be the next step is us players creating our own Faction Warfare, using RvB as a base. You've already incorporated storyline, from what I've heard. So why not take it to the next level? Why not have 4 or more teams? This obviously has the potential to grow into something huge. It has the ability to bring fun, carefree PvP to the average Empire-dweller, without having to worry about losing your systems with stations full of expensive stuff. You're not worried about territory, you're worried about fighting.
This, in my opinion, is how most of EVE should be. Everything should support this. You can have 4 alliances that are the fighting force. Then each alliance has a sister-corp that is the industrial backbone for the fighting folks. The sister-corp is outside of the alliance, in order to not be made war targets. If the sister-corp is war decced by a third party, all four combat alliances can declare war on the intruder in order to help protect the industrial backbone. Getting non-PvP related people involved in this is the next step.
With four alliances, you can have each one choose a faction to "play" as. Of course the members of the alliance would not have to be of that race, and RPing would not be forced on anyone. But the backstories that can be developed would have great possibilities, and in my opinion will add to the richness of the action.
All action would be kept out of 0.0 so to not get involved in politics. And if the desire arises, POS-warfare could be instigated in low sec, giving room for higher-SP Capital pilots to enter the fray. This could be good, but also bad as you begin to bring in territory.
Have you given any consideration to ideas like these?

We do have more plans for extending RvB, but four sides will give us considerable leadership and organisation problems, it's hard enough with two at the moment, so the likelihood is that we'll remain two sides.
Eve's four factions have no relevance to our two.
Everything else you've mentioned is what we do/have anyway, the only difference being the number of sides.

I'd just like to say that having joined a short while ago (a week?) I've already seen a LOT more PVP-action than i could ever have imagined.
Yes, I've lost ships, but it's all fun and games, both sides exchange GF's, and when there's a purple op, everyone suddenly become one big family, at least for a short while 
Thanks for this wonderful concept, it was about time someone accomplished something like this, since CCP is obviously lacking in producing decent content for their own game (soon tm.)

The 4 side idea has some credit. Might be a good thing for peopel with some sort of RP in their blood. 4 alliances each one only accepts a specific race. Minmatar and gallente in war witn amarr and caldari. Would be another very nice thing to do. Not necessarily by the RnB people, so.. RP that are reading.. start moving these rear ends of yours!!!!

I would say my best night was jumping a group of MF (I think it was them) battlecruisers. Kudos to them, they put up a good fight but they were outnumbered and popped.
To be honest, this is a great idea and I think it should create a few red faces in Iceland *cough factional warfare cough* :D
