Hi,
I am one of the many E&B refugees and I am looking for a particular ship. I want a ship that is big, slow, underarmed, but holds a LOT of cargo. I want a ship that will let me mine to my hearts content full of tritanium ore. I care little about defense at this point (if it holds enough, it may even be worth it to me to hire escorts). Think a space slug..a bohemouth freighter.
Does such a beast exist in Eve? I really need something to save up for, as I am gaining money pretty rapidly and I really dont have a thing to spend it on.

Sounds like you need industrials..
Iteron Mark V
Like that baby there!
But that particular baby need a lot of skilling so Mrk1,Mrk2, etc.. will be your first options.. If you are Gallente.. the other races have other Inustrials..
Can be found in the market under Industrials..
Hope that answers your question..

I would advise against mining into an indy unless your AFK mining. It would be wise to mine into a can or secure container and then collect your refines with an indy. Mostly since you can only mine with 1 miner 1 or 2 on an indy whle you can do 2 on a frigate Imicus can run a EPS Gausian and a Miner 2 and pull in 60k of pyro in 2-3 hours, and of course an Iteron MK3 can move all of that to your station in 2 jumps with cargo expanders. By far an Gallente Imicus is a great starter mining frigate. With a Frig/Indy combo you'll be moving onto a cruiser within no time. If you need any help look me up in game.

Cerated is correct. It amazes me how hard I have to work to convince our new recruits that mining in a hauler is almost across the board a Bad Idea(tm). Pretty much any frigate in the game (except a Kestrel of course) can double the mining output of any hauler. Cruisers and battleships of course blow the doors off a hauler in mining ability.
As mentioned AFK mining is the only real reason to use a hauler to mine but that is about it and AFK mining is limited in the places you can use it and expect to have a ship when you get back.
Otherwise the Industrial Ships (essentially space trucks) fit the bill of what you want nicely. The Iteron Mk-V is indeed the best of them all but it is hell to train for. 35+ days depending on your attributes (which I am guessing at this point are low).
If you want to get close to a Mk-V but have a much easier time training for it consider a Mammoth (Minmatar hauler) which only requires L-4 in the skill to use. The Mammoth and the Mk-V are the only two industrials that can use 10mn Microwarp drives which can make an otherwise slow hauler fairly speedy.
Most people however content themselves with just training to level 3 to use haulers as it is fairly quick to do and the haulers at that level are pretty capable. At that level my first choice would be a Badger-II (Caldari). The Bestower has a bit more cargo than the Badger-II but the Badger-II is so much more flexible I consider it the best at that level. Sadly except for the Mk-V which rocks most of the Iteron (Gallente) line are pretty poor when held against their rivals. The Mk-III is fair and gets the job done but is nothing special. Mk-I, Mk-II and Mk-IV are just a waste and shouldn't be bothered with in most cases.

That is exactly what I was talking about. I have Gallent Freighter 3 training going right now, just have to get the Spaceship Command and Industrial up to 3 now.
Can't wait to get started with this thing..I asked for an absolute beast of a ship and thats what I got :)

dont mine in indy's as it takes ages and u will want some protection as well with a few shield boosters they can take low threat rats but nothing much more and they mine very slow so unless u are an uber miner dont mine in em mine in a mining ship then quickly go back get ur indy and go get your ore k. mammoths r the best indy's fit expanded cargo hold not basics u ghet 13km3 space lovely ----------------------------------------

pay noobs to mine for you.. and pay for special oops against rats.. 4-5 noobs and 2-3 ops.. makes sense..
the noobs you can pay next to nothing say 200k then the the ops you pay 1mil each easy money.

Found in safe systems. Just hire some miners, and put shields on the industrial. Fighters are not needed in high sec systems (imho).

Edited by: SpacePervo on 02/05/2004 13:10:16 ok my tip to yourself is as everyone may know the very start of your eve life is very hard for those who dont have more than 1 account also very slow i wouldnt worry too much about the mining part in the first few weeks(unless you love mining)the way i tend to tell ppl to do it is train all those learning skills to level 4 first as these you will find are very important in the long run while these are training which should take the best part of your first 2 weeks into eve do agent missions(which give a decent payout for a newbie and also gets you into the works of eve a bit faster) this should give you a bit of a taste of everything from mining to fighting. then you can set your sights on what you would like to do in eve or if you want to be a jack of all trades or a missions junkie heh then if you want to pursue a mining career i suggest getting yourself into a thorax(5 miner 2s baby) then you will know what mining really is i have a few accounts so mining comes easy to me but i have found if you want a ship with reasonably large capacity you will find the bestower a very useful tool the idea is you have the bestower parked in the station you take the thorax out mine for lets say 1 hour(if you wanna mine longer jettison another can and move contents into this) into your own can that you have jettisoned previously you will find this tin will fill up pretty fast if you have trained up that mining and astreolgy skill then when your sick of mining bookmark the tin jump back to the station take out the bestower and pick up the contents. id strongly advise against getting the iteron mark v just because of the pure time factor taking to train that unless you wanna be your corps hauling wench that is, i find the bestower to be more than capable of doing the job.
