I've just bought and installed a Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme gamer soundcard but am getting no sound with EVE. Got it setup, music sounds great, vent works fine, but when I log in to EVE I get the following message:
"Audio drivers not detected. Sound system will not be activated. Please make sure you have audio drivers installed"
When I hit ESC and go to the audio menu I can tick Audio enabled and Hardware acceleration.
Under Audio Output driver the only option is direct sound. Under Audio Output Device the only option I have is SB X-FI Audio [BCOD}.
I have updated the soundcard drivers to the latest version using the creative auto upater. In preparation to the instalation I disabled my onboard soundmax in the bios and uninstalled any drivers and software.
But no sound in EVE
Can anyone help me out?

I'm using a X-Fi Extreme Music with Vista 64. No problems here. At "output device" you should see speakers, headphone or SPDIF. Probably you should not uninstall the driver if you are going to update it.

I'm having this issue too, now. I've been playing Eve for almost a month with my SB X-Fi Xtreme -- now suddenly when I load the game today, it's telling me it can't find the audio drivers...
The sound works fine in every other program as well as windows. What gives?

I have suddenly had this issue since the last patch with my laptop. Its not X-fi (Conexant) but exactly the same errors etc.
Audio works fine for everything else, just not Eve.
Sounds like a patch bug.

I have an x-fi xtreme music. I can't click hardware acceleration and alchemy won't work with vista. Is there a way to get hardware accelerated sound with eve on vista?

Has anyone resolved this? I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro. I played the game for a week without any issues. Now I can't get the hardware acceleration to be detected. |

Whatever is causing this, it is central to the X-fi species. When using X-fi, only certain sounds are available, and the voice is never audible at all.
I have a usb headset integrated sound card combo by plantronics which I lovingly call "the brick." When using this alternative, all sounds are consistantly available.
This is either a hardware or driver issue specifically associated with the X-fi family as far as I can tell.

Edited by: PEACE1974 on 31/08/2008 18:18:00 I used to have a Microsoft USB sound system. now that I got rid of it, I am getting the same "audio drivers not detected" as described above. I used to be able to use either my Microsoft USB sound system or my Realtek HD system, but now that I have no USB, my realtek is broken with Eve. sounds to me like an issue with needing to have a USB sound device connected (whether it is my microsoft speakers or your bluetooth headset)..... weird

Good news... (I hope)
For a few months I discontinued using my X-fi extremegamer because of issues like the ones described here.
For the last couple of months I used other hardware I have with satisfactory results.
Today I discovered a recent driver at Creative Labs: SXBF_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0004
This one was released in July of 2008 and seems to have resolved all issues.
No more sound issues in EVE, and EVE sees the X-fi and uses it to fullest extent... at least as of this moment.
Give it a try
