The whole damage thing confuses me... I guess that at the end of each cycle, there's a chance equal to the volatility percentage of the volatility damage being done to... something? Except the crystals don't have a HP figure listed for them...
So, anyway, can somebody explain how they work, and how long on average one can expect a bog-standard T1 crystal to last for... I just bought 10 to go with my T2 strips which I'll be using in a day or so when I finish training for my Retriever (woot) but I have no idea how long they're likely to last until I have to replace them...

they always damage 0,01 when they reach 1 they are gone
T1 lasts like forever =) T2 around 8 hours _______________________________________________ Mining Crystal II BPC Pricelist EVEpedia[Deutsch]

Hmmm using weapon crystals I began to see diminishing damage after awhile and I would then replace them and sell the old ones... I have never used mining crystals as yet--but can the T2 mining crystals be sold after being used (like the weapon crystals)and will they be good as new to the new owner?

Nope, when they're gone they're gone, they pop and you have to toss a new one into the laser. Also, the above post about constant damage is untrue afaik, I've always seen it chance based, not always going up, but when it does it goes up by 0.2-0.5 in one go (when it reaches 1 the crystal is destroyed) I can go through a set of brand new crystals in a decent 5-6 hour mining slot, faster if you've got a command ship with the laser duration mod.

For a more precise answer, it is as follows:
T1: Per cycle there is a 10% chance of doing 0.025HP damage (out of a total of 1 HP), so you need to damage the crystal 40 times to break it. This means on average a crystal will break in 400 cycles, which gives T1 crystals an average lifetime of 1200 minutes or 20 hours.
T2: Per cycle there is a 20$ chance of doing 0.025HP damage, so you need to damage the crystal 40 times to break it. This means on average a crystal will break in 200 cycles, which gives T2 crystals an average lifetime of 600 minutes or 10 hours. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Automated Influence Map |

if the show info is correct it would mean that they always damage 0,025HP
but i cant remember i have ever seen a T1 damage for more than 0,01HP

well i think we both can agree that there are long streaks of 0.01 dmg on T1 and T2 MC , so .... dunno maybe its calculatet different

I have never seen .01 damage on a T1 crystal. It has always been .025 ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Automated Influence Map |

The T1 last quite a while, the T2 half as long.
Every time a cycle ends or begins (not sure which), there is a small chance they'll take damage. They take 0.025 damage each time, at 1 damage they burn out and you need to load a new one.
However, you will definitely make up the price in faster mining before they burn out. The annoying thing is of course when one burns out and you forgot to pack spares. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |
