This is getting so annoying.
I went out and bought 256k more RAM for this machine. Everything was fine. Then a few patches later, and now it's choppy again.
If I don't relog once every 15 minutes to a half an hour. The game becomes completely laggy.. It takes like 30 to 60 seconds to come out of warp at the stargates. 30 to 60 seconds to load the following systems. 30 to 60 seconds to undock.. And whenever someone else appears on the screen you get a 2 to 5 sec freeze.
It really sucks and I know it can be fixed because it wasn't doing it a few months ago..
Fix the memory leaks or something. Maybe have some bug hunters play in windowed mode. Because windowed mode needs some love I think.
Something is wrong. I can play other games forever without a decay of performance. Only in EVE does this happen.

I can commiserate - just been hunting NPC's for 3 hrs and Eve was using 756Mb of my 1.5Gb of RAM
You may want to consider moving up to 1Gb of RAM - it's becoming the standard.

upgrading to 1gb is not the issue. the issue is the fact that EVE have issues.

The sure cure is to stop running that OTHER program (and I KNOW you are) that has the memory leak big enough to drive through and you'll have fewer problems. Eat My Shorts! |

I can 2 clients and winamp on 512mb RAM without trouble, for hours and hours on end. So don't think that's where your problem is. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

some people just tolerate it or simply do not perceive it.
it changes every patch. some times it's fine, next patch it sucks.

I've always thought there are different types of RAM. Different sizes, different recommendations and stuff.
I remember reading somewhere - If you don't have the right type of momeory of your motherboard, or something, you may not recieve the best of it's quality... Otherwise, I would just get any DIMM 1GB DDR RAM or higher. ____________________ ## 010100100110100101101101011000010111001101100101

that must be Windows Millennium, ewww that os sucked so bad hehe.
Anyway i see eve eating lots of ram and its due over time when you play long time or stay idle, esp jumping when traveling it goes up but i dont think i saw it go to 700mb mostly to 400-500 or so and about the same for the virtual mem, which i cant understand at all why in the world would eve use so much virtual mem, when i have 1gb of ram, and the OS being XP doesnt take too much
that much vir mem must lag things? or the os who knows, when you look at the mem usage also check the vir mem, maybe its going into intensive vir swapping as well? that would cause lots of lag support Idea: QuickInfo an alternative to ShowInfo

I run 2 clients on the same machine and well no problems here with memory issuse. This is with it running 6-12 hours a day also none stop without a restart of the client and well all week for the computer (reboot once). Never used mroe then 350mb's per program at a time.
Could be an issue with the system? Maybe a nice clean reinstall of the OS would solve it. Fear The Bunny

It could be your system has been used alot also.
Application-Launch Prefetching Windows XP also uses prefetching when launching applications. The files and the contents of the files accessed by each new process are observed and recorded. No prefetching can be done for the first launch of an application, so first launches are often considerably slower than subsequent launches. About 85% to 90% of the improvement is realized after just one launch of an application, with the remaining speed improvement coming after the system has had an opportunity to adjust the disk layout with information specific to this application.
I will be testing deleting all my files in c:\windows\prefetch and seeing that I have been running my system since 2001 that the files in thier are old and uninstalled. I hope to have a clean run and get some speed back in my 1.8 p4 512mb ram. I fear that since eve program has been changed alot on the client side alot since i first installed the resources are not being allocated properly. --------------------------

I'm using WinXP Pro with current updates. The game has problems with WinXP in Windowed Mode or something.,
I've had the same issues with EVE before & after reinstalling WinXP.
EVE is notorious for having problems for one player, and not for the next guy. Just because you don't have the problems I have, it doesn't necessarily mean it is my computers FAULT that I am having the problem.
This game is optimized for one type of setup and one type of OS.. It needs to be fixed.
Also.. I don't notice any memory problems neither when I just sit around and chat. Or sit around and mine.. It's when your jumping alot.. And hanging out in a busy channel like trade doesn't help neither.
