Armor resist stacking penalties and diminishing returns. Ok I have looked up info on stacking penalties but seems armor does not follow same rules in the sticky so can someone explain. Question is about the invulnerability field. With base EM resist of 0 and 2 invulnerability fields active the resist goes up to little more then 41% which is +25% and +.64% of second shield. Does someone have the formula for shield penalties. I just want to know if its worth while getting the faction invulnerability fields or not.

Clicky the linkies in the siggy until you find it. And by the way, armor and shield DO follow the exact same rules. It's just the modules that are a bit... different. It's explained in great detail in one of those links, in a multi-page thread.

Edited by: Ryysa on 13/03/2008 17:20:07 Use something like EFT.
As for formulas, it's the usual stacking formula. 1.0, 0.87, 0.51, 0.27 iirc (don't remember last one for sure) ;)
Those are the first 4 stacking multipliers. Sort module effects in a descending fashion and apply the multipliers to each module, after that calculate resist.
Resistances are absolute, meaning 100% equals no damage. So if you have 50% resist, and you fit an unstacked module, that mitigates damage by a further 25%, you would have 62.5% resistance. Second module would give you 0.87*25% = 21.75%, meaning 62.5% + (100%-62.5%)*0.2175 = 70.65% etc.
Nothing really complicated if you think about it.
Also Akita, using tinyurl you will be able to squeeze in descriptions for your links or more links. Just a hint :P

Actually, the way I link them is 1 character shorter than what I'd get with tinyurl And yes, I only have 2 chars spare in my sig char limit

Stacking penalties are the same for all modules:
f(1) = 1 f(2) = 0.8708860 f(3) = 0.5705831 f(4) = 0.2829552 f(5) = 0.1059927 f(6) = 0.0299912
That means that your first invulnerability field will give you +25% resistance, and the second will give you +21.77% resistance.
Next thing is how resistances are added. 25% + 21.77% is not 46.77%.
A 25% resistance multiplies incoming damage by 0.75; a 21.77% resistance multiplies it by 0.7823. Combine they will modify the damage you receive by 0.75*0.7823 = 0.59 which is equiv to a 41% resistance.

OK thanks for clearing that up for me.
