Just bought a Sacrilege for 86M. Insurance is 5M with a payout of 12M. Wow. Thanks tons! If my ship gets wrecked, I have less than a 10% downpayment. 7M for a 86M ship? Please. Am I missing something or is this just some sick joke on CCP's part?

It's a tech 2 ship. Tech 2 ships are meant to have ****ty insurance. Don't like it? Fly T1.

From what I understand, NPC corps do not build or sell T2 ships and the price of them is completely player driven, while the insurance rates are set in stone by CCP which is why they're such a low payout. ---- In the beginning the Universe was created. Insurance hates tech-2 ships. If you want a good insurance payout, fly tech-1. 'Course you're more likely to die in a tech-1 ship anyways so there you go... ---

Insurance is calculated from mineral costs I believe.
Since T2 ships cost way more than their minerals... EVE RELATED CONTENT |

Yes, it is utterly ridiculous.
Some dumb "AI" is giving you a roughly 140% payout on your premium when we all know the chance of you having the ship blown up in the next month is closer to 50:50
Nerf insurance. If you make more than two claims in a month, or you spend a week in 0.0, your policy should be canceled.
But wait - that would make EvE a tough, harsh game with concequences, and then the gankbears would whine.

You pay 5m, you get your ship destroyed and you get paid 12m, so you are up 7m from blowing it up ! But yes, generally no one bothers insuring T2 ships.
Insurance is based upon the value of the mienrals, not the market value, if they gave you market value no one would sell ships, they would simply build them insure then and destroy them. Tech 2 ships have a huge markup on build cost, mostly because they require invention or one of just a handful of BPO owners to get them built, and also partially because the advanced materials are slightly undervalued in the insurance equation. Tech 1 ship insurance on the other hand is overly generous, in all of the cases it pays back MORE than the ship is worth, of course this is balanced by the premium but you still do not lose very much. The reality is because almost everyone that insures a ship loses it, it's a huge isk faucet everytime someone insures a ship. If you want insurance stick with tech1 ships.

NPCs don't make any tech 1 ships either except shuttles (and maybe some tech 1 frigates as well, I'm not completely sure on that). In both cases the prices are set by player interaction on the market, buying and selling.

the inurance is based on material cost... and is correct... its just the players selling it at 86mil... CCP will NEVER increase insurance to match market prices
EDIT: if it was me.. id remove insurance completely from this game :) then again... i only pvp in t2 ships...so i have forgotten about insurance anyway. ---------------------------------- This is Me, fighting stupidity one post at a time. commandships have decent payouts, you get 50-60m on a hull that costs 70-80. everything else is pretty crap.
