Forgive me if this has been mentioned before, I haven't had time to go over the hundreds of fix Jita posts.
I suppose we should start from the beginning: Is Jita a problem?
Yes and no. Its laggy, but it wouldn't be laggy if no one went there. Of course, if no one went there and the lag cleared up, everyone would go there. Bit of a catch 22. Personally, I rarely set foot in Jita. I don't want to deal with the lag, and frankly, the prices aren't all that much better than anywhere else.
So, why fix it if it isn't broken? Easy. Players hate lag. Who can blame them. Since the player base won't fix the issue by not using Jita, that leaves it up to CCP to fix it.
Now how can CCP fix it? Aside from the draconian measures we've all seen tossed about in the forums, there is an easy way to *EASE* the congestion.
Start taxing things. The base tax on buying or selling is 1%. Well, any government that sees the kind of traffic that Jita does would raise taxes. Why? to pay for station wear and tear for one. Hundreds of ships docking and undocking every hour would cause enough wear and tear to a staation.
Moreover, mechanically, if the tax rates went up as more people bought and sold things, people would naturally tend towards the next system in order to get a tax break. As soon as people start doing this, the lag on Jita goes down quickly.
What I propose is a dynamic tax on anything bought and sold that is proportional to either the average number of people in a system over 24 hours OR perhaps the amount of buys and sells that happen over 24 hours. The more traffic a system gets, the higher the taxes go.
I don't have exact numbers of what the tax rate should be, but I suspect CCP can come up with something. Let's toss out 10% for a tax rate. (This is high, most likely, but it gets the point across.) I want to sell a Dominix. I sell it for 60M. In Jita with a 10% tax rate, I now have to put up 6M in order to sell it. Hmmm... I'd probably think about looking elsewhere to sell it unless my profit margins are pretty good.
On the flip side, in order to buy that Dominix at 60M, I'd have to pay 6M in taxes in order to do so. That's a bit steep, especially if the next system over only has a tax rate of 2%. Which one should I get?
What's more as people leave Jita, the tax rate would go down to decent levels. Less people means less tax. Of course, some would come back, but it would hit a nice equilibrium fairly quickly.
Obviously, this would need some testing to figure out how high the tax rate should go. However, I think it would greatly reduce the lag in Jita and do so in a way that players choose to go elsewhere; They aren't being forced out. Adapt more, whine less. |

The best way to 'fix' Jita is by not going there to buy stuff. You only have to pay a tiny bit more at the other trade hubs, and I find that buy orders set at Jita prices get filled damn quick. EVE is dead, long live EVE!

Or make it so players have to buy a ticket to get into jita, the ticket allows them in the system a set time then they have to leave... or else.

Eight replies and only one person bothered to read the thread. Wonderful.
Making Jita 0.0 or lowsec is draconian. Further, people will just go to the next trade hub and it'll be lagged to hell.
Saying, "People need to stay out of there," while true, isn't going to happen. Jita has only gotten worse, not better.
This fix would apply to all systems. When Jita stops being so crowded, even if everyone moves to another system, the tax rate would go up there as well. It ought to keep people from flocking to any ONE system and help to spread people out a bit. Adapt more, whine less. |

Jita should have bypass gates - ie you are auto piloting from one point to another and the AP routes you around jita automatically if local > 500 (or other value or just period); or if you are flying direct there is a parallel stargate that lets you jump on your waypointed course, as if you jumped into jita, warped across, and jumped again.
It would be the rough equivalent of building a highway bypass / expressway to alleviate traffic.
Taxes is not a bad idea but another approach might be docking fees, which I think would encourage a lot of people to move away if they didn't have any business there.
