What good are these things. You cant open them while in space ,even at a pos. They don't increase your cargo ability. I don't see the point of having them.

I think that they are the only thing you can put into a freighter. And so to move your goods from one station to another, you have to put them in a freight container, then load the containers onto a freighter.

Utterly wrong. You don't need freight containers to load or unload a freighter. Their usefulness is to organize stuff, since other types of containers can NOT be carried in a freighter except in their packaged forms.

Also, you can only contract 100 types of items at a time, so if you have more than 100 ships you would like moved, for example, putting them into freight containers means you can do that in one contract.
But still, just for orgazization.

You're forgetting one thing. you can only add up to 1000 items in any container so if you want to haul more than that at one time you have to put some of them into freighter containers.

Not to mention that filling up 33 Giant Secure containers takes a while longer then filling one Freight container. Especially when you realize that a fully trained Freighter can hold 8 freight containers or 325+ Giant Secure containers, sure you could haul 30% more, but the time you'll spent filling up all those cans is going to drive you insane. Imagine setting all those passwords ;-)

Freight containers are the ONLY type of container you can carry in a freighter in it's "unpackaged" state. Ships also MUST be packed to transport them in a freighter. ------------------------------------------------- **** You're out of your mind!

I don't own a Freighter (yet), so i don't know the intracasies of it, I just crunched the numbers ;-) I'm curious, couldn't you fill up a Giant Secure Container, and create a contract with it (haven't tried it, so i don't know)?

Something that failed to get mentioned I noticed, but you also use them to fuel POS. You can't unload straight from a freighter to a POS, it has to be taken from a freight container (the only exception being the enriched uranium, which can't be put in a container. You need a separate ship to do that.
Looking for the reference now,, but that's the word of mouth from the guy who IIRC wrote the POS guide.

I can confirm this, I frequently fuel my POS's straight from my Nomad.

This has been the case since freighters could be used close to online POSs. It would only be a significant change if you could fuel up an offline POS. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Automated Influence Map |

You have always been able to fuel an ONLINE POS without cans.
The only reason you would need cans is to fuel an OFFLINE/Just anchored new POS. I checked on SISI and this still stands, you can fuel an offline POS using cans but the enriched Uranium will not go inside a freight container so you still need an extra ship/trip to put that in. -- eve-guides.com All about POSs, Outposts, Exploration, Mining, Invention, EVE Database + much more!! |
