Overpowered? Sounds like you are the only one who thinks this is the case. They have plenty of drawbacks. Learn to probe and you will be better off. Nothing wrong with pretty much any ship in the game having a cloak. Makes the game more interesting and more fun. But I guess you'd rather everybody just run in to a big blog spot and pew pew everyone... I bet you were one of the guys who would always 'bunny hop' in FPS games. Or the guy who thinks that running into battle is ftw! Your 64kills is nice, but means jack when compared to the 59deaths.. bad ratio.
Ofc it's all relevant to the situation at hand. I like the fact that I can drop a cloak on a Rifter and scare the **** out of people.. granted not all people, and not experienced people, but it's still fun none-the-less.
Cloaks are fine. Don't nerf cloaks.. nerf the OP

ok like to address some of the things that were brought up.
firstly, these 40+ guys that were cloakers were spread over multiplue systems in at least 5 regions.
Secondly, i wasn't counting those in station systems because i agree, docking up gives the same affect as cloaking, still in local but not in space to be scanned.
Thirdly, probes don't work against cloakers, so learning how to probe wont help here.
Fourth, i don't want ccp to line ships up and go, "here, shoot these", i want to be able to run around for 3-4 hours and be able to find something to be able to shoot. Im not afraid of long hard roams, just as long as there is some reward at the end of it.

If cloaks are altered or removed, what is the counter to probes? Ctl-Q?

The *termerity* of people refusing to be your targets for a gank !
The *contempt* they are showing by their refusal to be blown apart by your guns.
The *exploitation* of using concealment to hide from preadators.
Whining freaking gankbears.
Face it, you fail as a pirate and need to quit. Ideally, after giving me your stuff.

My take on this:
1) People who manage to get cloaked at a safespot should be near-impossible to ferret out assuming they do nothing but sit there. However, these ships should be more limited in their information gathering options - what I'm thinking here is that you disable their onboard scanner and directional scan, so they can only ever see what's on the same grid as them. The exceptions to this would be covops/recon ships, as they are specifically designed to play this sort of intelligence gathering role.
2) Leaving yourself cloaked afk for long periods should not be possible. If you want to present yourself as a hidden threat, you need to be there, not off at work.
3) Cloaking "raiders", should be a viable tactic, but it should be much harder for non-specialized ships to get away cleanly afterwards. My suggestion here would be some sort of cool-down timer. e.g. you cannot cloak until 2 minutes after the last target lock on you is broken. The exact time to be tweaked to be long enough to give pursuit a fighting chance at probing them down before they can re-cloak. Exceptions to this would be covops, recon, black ops and stealth bombers, which are supposed to have an advantage in that sort of action, and probably industrial/transport ships as well, as they use the cloak for a significantly different reason, and do not present a significant combat threat anyway. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |
