Edited by: Countess NotFarOut2 on 15/03/2008 08:01:05 Reading the guide it says something like:
fly your ship in close until you're pointing towards it and launch a survey probe. even if it seems that it will not get there, if you've aimed properly it will.
You arrive about 5000 km from the moon. Pointing my ship directly to the moon is not possible: it just won't go to the object Moon. So I point a little outside the centre and my ship aims. I launch and then...nothing... Once I think I saw my scanner dislay a Moonprobe and I could choose Analyze, but I am confused about that situation: only once I did see a scanresult.
Can somebody guide me step by step thru this part of moon scanning? The available guides are very short here. What do I miss?

The results take 5, 10 or 40 minutes depending on the probe you use. A successful scan will show up under the moon analysis tab of the scanner or give a 'nothing found' message. If you miss it will say 'communication failed' or some such.

You can't double-slick directly on the moon to point at it because it will just select its icon and your ship will not move. A useful trick is simply to hit CTRL+F9 to remove the HUD and all icons from your screen. This will allow you to double-click right in the centre of the moon and ensure that your ship will be heading straight towards it so your probe will not miss. Just be sure not to spend too much time without the HUD in 0.0 and low sec though!

This is exactly what works for me on even the smallest of moons, and it was taken from all the different posts about it here, so I don't take credit for any great ingenuity.
Get a covops cloak, first of all. All t2 cargo expanders in lows, stuff your ship full of discovery probes.
Warp to the moon. Regardless of whether there's a pos there already or not, here's what you do. (You can skip taken moons if you don't plan on removing it and the curiosity isn't killing you)
Hit ctrl tab, hide all windows. Triple click the dead center of the moon (double doesn't always do it, so I tripled). Now hit ctrl tab and "show windows." Put your little covops ship in the dead center of the square for the moon. Once your ship is up to full speed, and therefore aligned, fire your probe. If you're not at a pos, I'd just let my probe re-load as I was warping to the next moon. If you're at a pos, cloak right back up if there are weapons, or else you will be losing your covops.
And ALWAYS make visual checks. I always have control towers set to show on overview. But that's not enough. Make a visual check. The True Sansha Tower on your overview may be UNANCHORED and ready for removal. Yes, someone actually left a True Sansha (large) Control Tower at a moon unanchored and for my scooping 8)

Edited by: Countess NotFarOut2 on 15/03/2008 11:17:31 Tnx for the answers, I will try them out. Very helpful. To be sure: you do NOT see a probe then inthe scanner as it is with exploration probes?

Correct. You used to see the moon probes listed, but CCP busted that in Trinity and never fixed it. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Automated Influence Map |
