Err... if you stay with Caldari ships and plan to shoot at things you'll either need hybrid gun skills (gunnery and all that jazz) or missiles (missile launcher operation and all them). Without any kind of goal or target I can't be any more specific.

Generally speaking, most future PvPers choose to focus on getting a particular ship and serving a particular role, and then train their skills based on that ship and role.
The fastest ship/role to acquire would be frigate/tackler: cheap, expendable, and often necessary in most gangs and fleets. Train Propulsion Jamming to fit a Warp Scrambler/Disruptor and a Stasis Webifier. Train Caldari Frigate to level 4 to get a decent combat-oriented frigate (Kestrel or Merlin) or train another race's frigate skill to level 4 (Minmatar frigates, such as the Rifter, are the most popular due to their speed). To improve performance, you will also want to train up Navigation skills: Acceleration Control, Evasive Maneuvering, High Speed Maneuvering, Warp Drive Operation and of course, Navigation itself. You can fit either an afterburner or microwarpdrive (MWD), but the MWD gives a greater speed boost and therefore more popular.
There are many other ships to fly and roles to fill, and you don't have to feel restricted to your own race's ships or to the roles that are easier to train for. Explore your options and figure out what you will have the most fun with.
However, there are some core skills that apply to every ship and role: Engineering, Electronics, Energy Systems Operation, Energy Grid Upgrades, and Energy Management to name a few.
Other useful skills include Targeting (the higher the skill, the more targets you can lock on simultaneously), Long Range Targeting (you can target enemies farther away), Electronic Warfare (allows you to use E-War PvP modules), Survey and Salvager (you can use salvager modules to earn more isk from wrecks), Cybernetics (to install implants into your head and improve attributes for faster skill training).
If you plan on flying Caldari cruisers or battleships, you may also need to train shield skills to improve your ship's defenses: Shield Compensation, Shield Management, Shield Operation and Shield Upgrades.
Edit: Below, my sig has a link to a "Skills" thread that touches upon this same topic. ---

If you want to pvp, spec for any other race other than Caldari, all they got going for them is Ewar -----------

I disagree
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

In terms of sheer damage, the Raven is awesome. Caldari have many great ships for PvP, and not just the ECM-boats either.
That said, a new character can essentially choose to follow any racial path they want, regardless of their starting race. I personally took my Caldari character and specialized in the entire Gallente tech-1 tree, but now I'm reassessing the value of Caldari tech-2 ships. As a new pilot, you can still choose any direction you want without any penalties. ---

So let me get this straight. Five ships ganked one ship, then someone made a web page to brag about it.
Did you steal his lunch money as well?

Caladari are great ships for "out of the box" shield tanking platforms, you need to get good skills with hybrids and missiles for them to be anywhere near useful with a caladari ship. Problem is once you loose your shield you are extremely fragile and will drop fast without shield/armor logistics. Can I be more specific? |

Other ships will drop even faster when they loose they armor. :P

Caldari have a number of excellent options for pvp. The question is what kind of flying do *you* want to do?

Caldari - Longrange guns, missles, EWar, slow, low damage. Amarr - Midrange, guns, missles, drones, can be nanoed, high damage. Gallente - Closerange, guns, drones, fast, high damage. Minmatar - closerange, guns, missles, drones, fastest by far, lowdamage.
As a caldari pvper, you will play a mostly support role, whether that is killing support or Ewar. If you choise ewar, you will die a lot (you will be primaried every time). If you choise this as your future pvp path: train your navigation skills, fitting skills, missle skills and shield skills - get into a Crow asap and work your way up from there. ----
