Recently I was out doing a little mining in 0.0 space when my ship came under heavy NPC attack and my hull dropped to 6.9% before I could escape... Closeby there was a player owned station so I promply docked at it and got in another ship to go find a hull repairer. When I got back to the player owned station with a hull repairer I was amazed and utterly disgusted that I couldn't board my ship!
2004.04.10 20:49:20notifyThat ship is too damaged to board. Somehow it is still holding together though.
That's the message I recieved and I nearly shat myself upon reading it. There is no repair facility in the station, and I can't get into my ship to take it elsewhere or fit a repairer on it... So I guess I am S.O.L. for that ship.
Anyways just informing you of this "feature" in case you already haven't found out the hard way. Basically don't get out of a ship with heavy hull damage if you are at a station without repair facilities, as you will lose that ship!

Petition and bug report (note, if you want help, you NEED to petition, as bug reports always go without a response!). I heard someone else saying a similar thing, but they bought the ship like that.
It's clearly a bug that your skills isn't calculated before you try to board your ship, hence the game things that your hull hp is negative (i.e. if you have 1000 hull without skills, and you have taken 1100 hull damage since you have mechanic 4 which gives you 1200 hp hull... well you're screwed I suppose).

Good post jarjar, initially I have already filed a bug report but I'll file a petition as well and see if I can get some assistance in getting my ship back. It'd be best if they don't deduct the cost of repairs from my wallet since it'd probably cost more than the ship just to repair it, but I'll try anyway. Thanks a bunch man!

Looks like someone locked their keys inside their ship!

*sry just had to say that, made me chuckle (and yes, I laugh at people who lock themselves out of their cars too)

I had that happen to me once too. I didn't know it could happen to be locked out of the ship and didn't know you could do partial station repairs either. Learned both in a hurry. It was my good fortune however, to be in a station with a repair facility. Good luck to you!

Ptahc notes form two patches ago state:
'Ejecting from a ship with high structure damage so that only your skills were holding it together (removal of your skill bonuses results in damage being higher than the default type hp) will result in the ship exploding after you eject if you are in space. '
I think they made it pretty clear.

But he exited the ship after docking, and switched to a new one. Thus his skills were no longer holding the ship in question together and it went to -hp. It's the same thing, only you don't get to see it go BOOM in the station.

He wasn't in space. SO CCP's patch notes are as clear as mud.
