Well I think this issue should be address as soon as possible as I consider it a matter of personal privacy. If you add a player to your contact list you can tell if they are on or offline without the persons consent. This is unacceptable and it must be addressed as soon as possible.
We should at the very minimum have an option to not allow people to add to there contact list without the persons consent or an option to appear offline at all times. (Have I gone blind and missed this option if it exists?)
Thanks === [i]I'm telling you Teal'C if we don't find a way out of this soon I'm gonna loose it. Loose it, it means go crazy, nuts, insane, bonzo, no longer in possession of ones faculties, 3 fries shor |

Edited by: Torlek on 10/04/2004 21:33:58 Well I just think we should have the option, that part of the game is pretty much like ICQ, MSN or AIM and used for nothing but communication. They provide privacy options and I think CCP should provide them to. === [i]I'm telling you Teal'C if we don't find a way out of this soon I'm gonna loose it. That's cool, I can see that. Besides... sometimes there's just people you love to death, but just dont feel like talking to.
I'm for the option.

Edited by: Torlek on 18/04/2004 17:01:30 Any devs care to respond? No reply from customer support as to my quite valid concern. It should be a legal obligation that you provide privacy for players that want it.
The only people who should know i'm online are the people who see me in space or listed in local, in no way is it acceptable for anyone no matter where they are to see if you are online without first gaining permission.
Sort it. === [i]I'm telling you Teal'C if we don't find a way out of this soon I'm gonna loose it. Loose it, it means go crazy, nuts, insane, bonzo, no longer in possession of ones faculties, 3 fries shor |

calm down a little
its a game.
and its useful for enemies to know when i am on... cause you know you can start looking for them then.
its part of the game. If all ships were permanently there (no dissappearing when you log off) and you could get at people in station - then i would agree with you, because you would have to hide very well to make sure ppl dont track you down.
but as it stands - it is necessary at some times.

Edited by: Baldour Ngarr on 18/04/2004 18:36:18 If I add Torlek to my contact list, I still can't tell whether you're online or offline; I can only tell if Torlek is online. And he doesn't even exist IRL, so he can't possibly have any claim to privacy.

Bit of a daft idea tbh, could be abused too easy.
It would be too easy to just warp to a planet then log off...would give the impression that you left the system through a jump gate if i am not mistaken? Basically allows a cheap method of escape.
As mentioned, i do not see it as a intrusion of privacy at all, it does not give out any personal information what so ever.

It doesn't matter if someone sees you as online they still have to find you anyway being online does not give away your location. I personally don't care if people see me online or not the corp i'm in is fighting some 14 wars and if the enemy want to track me down and have a go then that is up to them. If you are offline you can still be found and people can wait for you to log in anyway. This isn't even real life it's not like once you are online in EVE everyone has your house address, your telephone number, your credit card number, your mothers maiden name etc. And you could have been online for hours before even logging in to EVE. All people even know is that you are playing on EVE along with around 9000 other players. -----------------------------------------------
