Hi all,
How useful would say a griffin be in a small fleet (2-5) of T1 Frigates doing some low-sec PvP. Usual targets would be frigates, destroyers, and perhaps cruisers. I am just wondering if taking a Griffin along would be useful or if it would be more useful taking another DPS ship to try and kill the enemy faster.

If all your ships have a warp disruptor and perhaps a webifier, the Griffin's ECM bonuses would allow you to make it hard for the enemy to target-lock you. If you get the script that makes it twice as long for them to lock you, you could all be shooting him down before he can even get a lock.

If you know how to use EW, then a specialised EW frigate will be a great asset to even a small frigate fleet.

Thanks for the answers.
How does this fitting sound (please keep in mind that the fleet will only go up against cruisers maximum):
2x Standard Launchers 1x Small NOS
1x Multispecteral 1x Caldari specific 2x Gallente specific
1x Module that boosts jammer strength (forget the name)
Reason for the two gallente is that it seems that the cruisers we encounter more often down there tend to be gallente. For T1 and T2 Frigs, I figure a single caldari (ones we usually see) is enough as it has a smaller sensor strength. For the rest the miltispecteral is there since we havnt encoutnered them too much.
What do ya all think?

The multi-spec is a lot more cap intensive. I'd drop it for another racial specific (probably minmatar). The racial specifics still have a chance to jam other races, it's just a smaller chance. With this setup you stil have a reasonable chance of a jam against the occasional Amarr.

Don't forget to carry extra jammers in your cargo so you can switch them around depending on your target.
And the module you're thinking of is a Signal Distortion Amplifier I think :)

Jammers suck a lot of capacitor when active; doubt you'll be able to keep the multispectral up, or any 2 up, without high Engineering skills and/or capacitor recharge modules.
I usually carry a Warp Disruptor and 3 racials (Caldari, Gallente, Minmatar). If your fleet wants to have more than one EW module active on a target, they'll have to bring more Griffins.

Well finally fit the amplifier. I am now getting 6 point jam strength on the racial scramblers, pretty good I believe.
I actually ran a test, and I was able to stabilize my cap at around 40% running the multi spectral and 2 racial while ruining the small NOS. However, I still changed it for the minmatar one as thinking about it thats the 3rd most likely thing well run against.
As far as the agony unleashed, I have actually taken the course and it is great. It is a different thing that we are trying to do, as we will have maximum of 5 people. Reason why I asked how effective ECM would be is because when I took it I wasnt one of the ones with ECM, so I am not sure how many times we jammed our targets etc. Also we had a few people running them, so I was unsure of how it would work if it was just 1 griffin.
No tank whatsoever on it thou, so here is hoping they dont see me :)
Will be giving it a try soon, hope all goes well. Thanks for the advice!

Warp in after your gang has engaged to prevent being primary, and stay aligned to something ready to warp out and back in again if your target's friends come.

If you throw a few dampeners with scan resolution scripts onto a couple of the other frigates then you will increase the effectiveness of the Griffin. If you lose jam on a target that is deing damped they will have to wait much longer to relock a target, by which time you will have probably got another cycle off at them.

Just an odd question, what would you be doing exactly? Who would you be targeting?

oh we will just be doing some roaming pvp in low sec, perhaps 0.0 if we feel brave enough. Probably targeting Cruisers and anything smaller.

Edited by: Kahega Amielden on 16/03/2008 19:04:43 Cruisers...doing what, though? You looking for ratters? Unless you target outlaws (flashy reds) or jump gatecamps, you can't do anything near stations/gates or you get ripped a new one by the sentry guns.

There are several T1 frigates that can solo other frigates, destroyers, and many cruisers. This is overkill. Raise your sights! Such a gang, with EWAR, can reasonably expect to take down battlecruisers, assault frigates, and more.
