Tonight at 12:00 I will start flying to the center of the Chaven solar system in an Amarr shuttle. Starting 129,679 kM from the sun, traveling 500 m/s, it will take me exactly 3 days to reach my destination -- the surface of the sun. I'm asking for ISK donations. I will give all of it to newbs in the Chaven area who need help getting started. I'm expecting 100,000 ISK for every 10,000 km traveled, for a total of 13,000,000 ISK. Just think. That's enought ISK to get any newb started. I will document the entire trip through in game screenshots, and in 3 days time I'll be able to answer the age old question. How hot is that thing?
Send all donations to Recruit.

After starting an hour early to make up for server maintanance, I've traveled to within 128,125 KM of Chaven's sun, but sadly, no donations yet. Sirk, a brand new member, has already contacted me about the ISK donation I plan on making, and I'd hate for him to stay a poor newb forever. Remember to send donations to Recruit, any amount is enough, and no donation is to small!

Edited by: Asharee Intrefer on 11/04/2004 03:59:52 Could you please use the link funktion to make your link look like this instead?
But I wish you all luck with your project.
Edit: that didn't really work. Oh well.

Not to be rude or anything, but how are you going to handle server downtime when it will dump you into warp?

I lost a little more than 3 hours today because I decided not to wake up at 7:01 (AM EST). When I did sign back on, I was right where I left off, so the random warp didn't effect my journey. The sun looks a little different now, I'll post a picture soon.
I'm 115,000 KM away, and still looking for donations! Send them to Recruit and I'll give it to a newb that needs it.
---
I'd like to say thank you to everybody that has made donations so far.
Here are some pictures...

111,000 KM!
EDIT -- The RedPalm has donated approx. 1,000,000 ISK!
---
About 95,000 KM left and Chaven's sun keeps getting bigger in my window. I've been chatting to people in the Eve Chat channel all day, and I'll continue to post my distance from the sun to keep people that care informed. While I'm talking about people that care -- Supernova Security Systems made a donation of 2,100,000 ISK while I was playing cards, and other smaller donations have been coming in all day. Thanks everybody!
Happy Easter everybody!

Edited by: Haratu on 12/04/2004 03:13:52 Great idea... i am sure this will be repeated for other suns of varying types to raise more charities.
When you make pictures you can use the following hotkeys: ctrl-tab closes all windows yet keeps the icons on screen, pressing again opens the windows again. ctrl-f9 removes all interface and windows to give you an unobstructed picture without flaws. (problem is that it has no icons so wont show the distance to sun)
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |

I slept in again, but it's no big deal. Last night while I was sleeping somebody donated 500,000 ISK before I got kicked off for server maintanence. When I signed back on this morning, I was less than 80,000 KM away! Here are some pictures, look at how the sun looks now...

Strange! Right now it's 11:15 AM EST and I'm 77,515 KM away.

I've given up for now. After being disconnected with 4,000 other people at about 12:00 EST, I reconnected and found myself back at 130,000 KM.
I'll try again sometime soon, but I have other things to do right now. Thanks to everybody that donated money, sorry that I couldn't make it all the way.

This would be kinda cool if someone was willing to load up a frig or cruiser with tons of rechargers and MWD's, to have a constant extremely high speed going. It would cut the time in half or way even more so. *shrugs

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Im impressed. Thats the spirit of adventure i like to see! Its a shame the journey failed due to that server crash. I was about to pledge a little donation myself...

I once read a forum post about a guy who loaded a battleship to the gills with 100MN mwd. He topped out at insanely high speeeds (3 million kms ?) which was enough to fly right through the centre of the sun in a relatively short burst.
Might be exaggerated. But still an interesting story. I'd love to see the surface of the sun
