I'm looking to start a trading/selling char. What is the best way to go about doing this? I'd imagine it would be some sort of Gallente character, but some specifics/pointers would be appreciated.

If you plan to do a lot of hauling you'd probably want to concentrate more on ship skills to help your survivability. For a "pure trade" character where you basically just sit in a station and play the markets you'll need to go heavily into trade skills.
I'm doing the latter with the following build:
Gallente - Jin-Mei Career: Business Ancestry: Sang Do Caste Specialization: Entrepreneur
I don't remember exactly how i placed my attribute points, but I ended up with the following (after a bit of training):
7 int 6 per 13 cha 13 wil 8 mem

look for a program called EVEHQ in the skills forum, it has a tool to find the best character for a certain set of skills (trading in your case). -------------

Guess I'll respond before someone moves this to the Skills section, (where it's already been answered twice in the last 2 weeks.
Minmatar Vherokior Business Retailers Entreprenuer
Gives you 600k pts in trade at birth, (200k more than the similar Gallente path). The attributes are not as good as the Gallente build, but considering how few pts there are in Trade/Social, and how few skills are needed to become efficient, it really doesn't matter that much.

i use the gallente ones, they seem to start with enough skills that i havent even really had to train them up for them to be workable.
i just wish they came with margin trading 4

Vherokior is the best for a dedicated trade only alt.

It's a shame that that's what Vherokiors do best, because they look pretty badass. ---- In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Addams |

Maybe for a casual trade alt who's selling mission loot, but if you're looking into trading full time you're at a severe disadvantage without Accounting/Broker Relations 5, Margin Trading 5, and the trading range skills to at least 3 each plus your starting skills (the vherokior build starts with Trade/Daytrading 5 and Retail 4). That's minimum for someone trading a small number of items; more items and you'll need wholesale/tycoon, obviously. And with the above representing maybe a month and a half of training, it's very easy to do.

This thread is like the blind leading the blind.
The ultimate character for trading is:
Caldari Achura Businessman Entrepreneur
This will put you 3 jumps from Jita, where you can easily fly and park.
You will have trading 5, retail and daytrading 4.
Have fun!

Nice troll. Way to save the 30 minutes it takes to fly from minmatar space to Jita, (as if Jita were the only trade hub) by making a character with a maximum starting charisma of 6. Have fun training those lvl 5s!
