Great game, but being unable to log in for hours for the three times in a single week because of lag is unacceptable.

i dont get it. I've been logging in and out all night and had no probs, i've also not had any disconnects that people have been saying about. is it geographical? Im in london so probably no more than 10 - 15 miles from the servers. I have noticed the lag in empire, but nothing unbearable.

A wise decision, like many have done before you.
Eve is losing lots of users due to the neverending lag issues.
The many alts can cover this decline for the time being, but not forever.

Results may vary from person to person, computer to computer, time to time, place to place, etc. I have had trouble logging in on occasion, and that has certainly been annoying, but it hasn't reached what I would call the boiling point... at which point I set a super-long skill training and play Madden NFL instead. ---

I bet you haven't really un-subscribed and you're just poorly trying to start some flame or trolling a bit CCP. A bit lame to be honest. But, in the other hand, if you really un-subscribed, it's good for us, one less whiner ^^

I am not a recently created alt, I'm a recently created main.
Eve is probably the best game I've found so far, but for me, no game is worth spending hours waiting while trying to log in.
Is that really that odd?

Yes, eve is not gaining subscribers it is loosing them, yub.
I have been listening to people like you for five years now (more actually since people were doing this doom and gloom stuff in the beta as well) and here we are still, eve got past 50k subscribers, 100k and now 200k and oh the game has been "buggy" the whole time.
Some think that he game is more buggy today than it has ever been... Well, trust me :) it's peachy as it is today.

Timeline: 2004 - some people whine about lag, eve about to be deserted - no doubt whatsoever
2005 - LOTS MORE PLAYERS, some people whine about lag, can't be saved, game is doomed, CCP all idiots - don't know what they do
2006 - LOTS AND LOTS MORE PLAYERS - some people whine about lag
2007 - CRAZY NUMBERS OF PLAYERS IN SINGLE UNIVERSE - MORE THAN FREAKIN EVER, ANYWHERE - original new phenomenon on forum: some people whine about lag, they and all they know are about to leave game in protest over this and that - Eve must surely be doomed - any decade now

So all the few remaining players have 200 accounts each now or what? Somebody else must have 399 then - I have just 1.
BTW - lag is not universal. And often it is client-side - or a bad internet route. I have seen lag while 200 ships invaded an outpost system, I have seen a bit of lag in Jita, I have seen lag while dozens of pilots raided a popular complex in a busy system with hundreds of wrecks lying around. It was still playable and those occasions were the rare exceptions. Most systems most of the time are either lag-free or low in my experience.
Playing Eve since 2003, have seen all whines imaginable - many times over on this forum - most bear no relation to what's really going on.

Since this thread is on the way to becoming a trainwreck, something I had not intended, let me clear some things up.
I mainly spent time running missions for the Caldari Navy. Doing that makes it very hard to constantly avoid Jita and Perimeter.
I wish I'd started this character as Minmatar or Gallente instead. In that case, I'd have the standings I've been building with a corp in a less laggy part of space. Yes, I could rebuild those standings somewhere else. To me, it isn't worth spending another few dozen hours just to get to the point where I am now again.
Also, I do not think "lag will be the end of Eve". Eve's a great game, so I expect the playerbase to keep growing. I do think it's very likely that a few hundred people are experiencing the same thing as me, though, and a number of those might quit.

If you're recently created, re-roll and start somewhere else, or stop doing missions for Caldari Navy that obviously constantly throws you into Jita. There are plenty of lesser mission hubs. Jita is already the only system that has its own node. People just keep cramming it with bodies until it vaporizes. Especially on Sundays for some reason. Some kind of religious thing?

You don't have to "reroll" Amarr, just go to Amarr stations and work up those agents. Heck, go to a pirate npc station.

While wider issues about minor lag are worth debating.
I dont understand your logic or motivations.
You say EvE is the best game you've found so far, yet you are not prepared to spend like a week or two rerolling a new character outside Cladari space to avoid game killing Jita lag.
And really while it is not acceptable (the Jita problem) its what people deserver for all creating cheesy caldari characters cause they percieve them to be the most powerful.

Edited by: Lirt on 17/03/2008 01:12:19 Actually eve is losing many new players. Way too many. Maybe thats good cause the servers cant handle them... Users online are around 35k-40k for about a year now. It used be bigger and bigger every month. All is left in eve is old players. Point is how long old players will keep playing with this situation. Time will show...

You just won the forum today. excellent post that gets right to the point.
On a side note so far since the patch ive had 0 lag except for the server problems yesterday. Could it be that your in jita/motsu/some other dump? How many other games do you know that have 0 lag in thier most crowded area.

I experience no lag. At least not worse than in any other popular MMO. So it's either your computer, your internet connection or the solar system your character is in.
Don't blame it on the game as if it was a general problem.

It's the solar systems I've been in, yes. And since solar systems are an important general game aspect, I'd say it actually is a general problem.
Other MMOs tend to be buggy in crowded areas, but in no other MMO has lag actually frozen my character and left me unable to log in for hours.
