Long story...
I once had a friend who introduced me to FF VII, and he always named Red XIII "Havok". Kinda a habit for him, as his brother did the same. I carried on the habit, thought it would make a decent name. Honestly no idea where I pulled Dryke from.

My name is a reaction to my initial attempts to make a fantasy sounding name in an mmo a long time ago. After messing about with old English phones and terrible abuse of double vowels (aa being a frequent offender) and 'odd', though now painfully common, phonetic substitutions (q in place of k, etc) I just thought f**k this and well, cottage pie was born.
every time i see 'aa' in a name though its like stepping on rakes.

My original wow name was Eurudin, pure imagination. Made a shared "for fun" character with my brother who was called Wisiti, then called it Euriti, i later took over the char and played it alot. Then started EVE and took this name. Imagination

after thinking for hours of an original and witty name i admitted defeat and just used my real name and stuck the first letter of my surname on. So its "shaun see" not "Shaun-uck" as every one seems to say on TS. This is my first MMO so i didnt really care about the name when i started, I really wish i had put more thought into it

mine came from the welsh word for mouth and another name for a dragon my other char is called dragon mouth just a play on words :) (no im not welsh just live in wales). Some welsh names are great for fantasy char names because of the meaning but if you dont know what the litteral meaning is it can be fun :)

I got three:
Mordinn is based off two different characters. I was reading the Wheel of Time series when I started EVE, and one of the evil dudes in the book was called Moridin, his name means "Death" in the Old Tongue. That coupled the dwarven deity Mordin.
Jr Grae is what I consider to be my gaming personality. My real life nick name is J.R. which are my initials, but everyone always referred to me as Jr (junior). I also once considered changing my last name to Grae because I loved the name. So I use Jr Grae when I want to imagin myself in a game.
Sythia Grae was my first MMO character in Asheron's Call. Sythia comes from the Veruca Salt song Forsythia, and I just explained where Grae comes from.

Kinda randomly came up with mine years ago. Also have Fearoth. One of my alts way back in the day on Diablo 2 was named Azeroth, and one day in one of the battlenet chatrooms I saw someone enter the room with "suchandsuch@azeroth" as their name. I thought someone hacked my character. Later found out that it was a place in warcraft.

INNONIMATE used literary devices sort of like Douglas Adams where he'd make up character names to over emphasise some point. Names like Tighty Tight or Fighty Fight. Well, one of them was Strongy Strong. Making appearances in Super-Sized-Sentences such as this:
"However, having recently become a wealthy CEO of a corporation that did less than the world's laziest man chopped into a million pieces, mixed with the result of an American factory foreman of a plastic alphabet toy factory instructing a member of staff to place the last letter of the alphabet at the end of a row on a conveyor belt ("lay Z"), reassembled into a man called Lazy Laze, and then used to create a three-part collector's edition box set of word-play superheroes with his loyal friends Strongy Strong and Tighty Tight, I was beginning to develop more of an ever-stronger sense of self-identity than a boisterously overconfident man who had accidentally superglued an oversized "glow-in-the-dark" mirror to his face..."
Suddenly Strongy Strong, one of INNONIMATE's word-play super heroes, came to life and accused INNONIMATE of scamming the Eve populace with his "Invest in my corperation, which will do absolutely nothing, and you will receive this nice shiney investment certificate and pretty much nothing else" scheme. Soon the Eve populace was witness to an arguement between the writer and one of his made up characters.
During this arguement Noluck Ned made an offhand comment giving his appraisal of said arguement.

about... 10years ago was going to something called Laserquest. Kinda like paintball but with light sensors and laser pointers. Wanted my name to be "angel of darkness" but that was too long, so it became Darkangel. Jump forward a couple of years and the TV show darkangel came out... ok show, damn sexy girl as the main character... but as soon as that comes out, Darkangel is a female name.
So i had to go in a different direction, and Drakus is what came outta it.
I can happily say that I am the ORIGNINAL Drakus, and that all the others with that as a first name came after me :)

One of my friends (who will probably post on this thread soon) called his first account using his real name, which he then deleted because he ran out of trial. Then he created a new name with the surname "Assulu" (ass-oo-loo). Now he has a whole family of Assulus.
I try to play with words when created new accounts now. Such as sirnames usually were what your proffession is. I make missiles a lot, and I was thinking of Galvanizing for some reasion, so I came up with Arbiter Galvan for my Deteis alt.

My internet handle has been 'Hunter' for as long as i can remember.
It comes from 2 sources.
1. from a game called Mechcommander (sort of rts version of Mechwarrior)
2. from a mythical figure from the tale of Robin hood called 'Herne the Hunter'
the zeroes i added cuz i was a lazy bum when i started the char, and did not expect to play for longer then the 2 week trial... this is now almost 4 years ago...
So let this be a lesson, don't be lazy with inventing an original name, oh and don't use numbers, cuz u will end up on the top of every local and u can forget about blending in with the masses.

In the novel "Journey To The Center Of The Earth" by Jules Verne, there is an Icelandic alchemist with the rather odd name of Arne Sakknussemm. As an Icelander, I find the spelling of the last name to be ludicrous, so I modernised it by cutting out most of the double consonants. Furthermore, since this is a futuristic game in outer space, I switched out an S with a Z.
FYI, there is a character in EvE called Arne Sakknussemm. There are no known relations between us. |
