I am looking for some advice regarding creating a 2nd account and playing it n my pc.
Is it possible to play 2 seperate accounts on the same pc ? DO I just install eve a different directory than my existing directory ?
Cheers

Yes it is, if you run the game in windows mode. I have 2x accounts and 2x PC's cos I prefer 2x full-screen displays, but there's plenty of folks use one PC.
2x accounts works best if you use one in a secondary role, eg: one to haul while one mines. PvP with 2x accounts is risky, as you can't give both your full attention all the time. You can have them both doing missions at the same time quite easily though.

I have 2x accounts, one being my main fighter, the other being a miner/hauler. I run them both at the same time, but it causes one instance of the program (whichever I opened first) to lag pretty badly. The optimal way to run 2x accounts would be to do it on two separate computers.

Just make sure they are two different installs and both have sun occlusion turned off. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Hmm... I am using the same install for both my accounts and also have sun occlusion turned on on one for sure, not so sure about the second account but I so far have had 0 problems.

no need to install a seperate eve folder or anything. i run up to 3 accounts simultaneously, same computer in the same eve install folder with no problem.
all you need to do is type in the different account login and password each time u start eve. all the accounts need to be in windowed mode to be running simultaneously, and yes turn sun occlusion off in the graphics settings.

Sorry to all you AMD fans / users out there but I have two words for you.... Hyper Threading
The reason your PC lags like that is because the CPU is assigning all the CPU power to one program and the rest of the programs running get the left overs...
That's the reason why one of your eve windows plays fine and the other one sucks. What I would suggest is to get an Intel CPU with Hyper Threading
I wont bore you with the details but basically I (at the time) could run 4 Eve windows on my P4 3.4 Ghz CPU (2.4ghz overclocked) and it would be totally playable on all of them. I now run 2 windows (long story) and it's 100% playable on both with no problems at all.
Without Hyper Threading (on my old 2.6ghz P4) it would do exactly as your described... one would play fine and the other would lag to hell...
You could also run a dual CPU AMD / Xeon system which would do the same thing but a P4 CPU with Hyper Threading is cheaper and works fine with Eve .
EDIT: Also, you don't need 2 seperate Eve folders if you have 3 or less accounts. I was running 4 and I had to have 2 Eve folders because as far as I could tell, you could only run the Eve exe a maximum of 3 times or it wouldn't let you log the 4th one in... kept giving an error message.
Also, make sure you have 1GB or more of memory if your running 2 or more Eve windows... 512 Megs might be enough but looking at my memory usage right now (with 2 Eve windows running) it's using 634 megs ... Thats probably because I have 15 Internet Explorers open and a couple MSN convo's but hey

Dude, get a clue. I run 2x accounts on an AMD system and have zero lag. BTW, Athlon processors have hyper-threading, except that AMD can't call it hyper-threading because Intel said so. |

Start your main dude up first. start yur hauler account second. Haulers require less system resources to play effectvely. Turn off any graphics options you dont abolutely have to have.

I'm sorry, but you, my friend, are a nubcaek.
I run 2 EVE Clients (And sometimes 3-4 when I'm on chaos at the same time as TQ), several internet explorer windows, Termnial services to managed one of my servers, outlook express, and god knows what else, and eve does not lag. It plays very well, even with 4 clients running, though 4 clients is a bit laggy but still very tolerable at least for me. I run windowed mode in 1280x1024x32
And, I'm on an AMD XP 3000+. ------- Your 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun perfectly strikes Guardian Enforcer, wrecking for 827.3 damage. |

I run both accounts from the same eve install and used to run both in windowed.
Your computer will treat a windowed mode eve like a program and bypass a huge chunk of your video cards performance dumping it all on your CPU.
I run a 1.6ghz P4 and ATI 9700, when run in both windowed mode i get 3 FPS on the main account, when switching both to full screen i get about 10-20 fps.
But I hear a whole lot of people crash or freeze up when minimizing eve or alt tabing out. But sofar I've had absolutely no problams running both for hours switching back and forth.

alt+tab seems to be on and off for me, when I first had Eve it would crash quite frequently when I alt+tabbe, now it seems to work fine though ------------------------------------------

You gotta pick a way to see it, though. 1 dinner at a restaurant per month? (Lot less than that actually) 2-3 pizzas per month?
Not that bad is it?
Now, on the other hand, if you see it per year, $144 might seem pretty hefty.

athlon processors do not do hyperthreading. If they did, windows would recognize 1 cpu as 2 (the performance tab under Windows Task Manager would show 2 cpu utilization graphs). this is what happens with HT P4's. and if amd cpu's did hyperthreading, there would be options in the BIOS for you to tinker with it, but there is none of this. you are right in saying that AMD cant call it Hyperthreading though, because that is intel's term. Its offically known as Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT).

If EVE will come back after an "Alt + TAB" depends on your graphic card drivers. I have an nvidia, and it seems with each new driver I can either alt + TAB or not...

Well, do I got money? I work for the money and considering my monthly salary then EVE is just a fragment of that :)
