I've been following Age of Conan for a while, and lately I've been having a real hankering for getting my hack and slash on. I'm probably going to be picking up a copy to try it out and see if they've finally put together a good fantasy based PVP MMO.
So I'm wondering, does anyone have any thoughts about AoC? Is anyone planning to play it? Are there any corps thinking about moving over there? I'd love to play with some EVE players. If anyone knows about dedication, PVP and territorial warfare, it's EVE players! (except the carebears )

I've been watching that game for awhile now and its only a few months off now . I really miss a small scale sword and board PvP game. That said I'm really hoping when they say FFA they mean it. I fully expect huge amounts of whines on the forum if people run for the pvp servers thinking there going to be like what WoW had. WAR hasn't done anything for me since there going the BG/Arena route for pvp.

Yup will get a copy when it comes out.
multiple reasons for this. 1 is that funcom isnt all wet when it comes to mmo's anymore. another is that i know alot irl friends will play it.

Beta is great but bloated atm, like 20+GB. No Boobies for the US version though .

The horror!!
I'm glad people have good stuff to say about it so far. I'm really hoping they do a good job on the battlekeep stuff and PVP zones. I like the idea of the territorial warfare, only without POS

Edited by: Meiyang Lee on 18/03/2008 20:24:38 actually the US and EU are both getting the same uncensored version (its in the AoC FAQ on the forums) the only country that gets a censored version is Germany, but that's because of their far stricter rules on violent video games, they also get boobies, just like everyone else.
As for bloated, the release comes on 2 DVDs, and is estimated to require around 30GB in diskspace.

I was interested before I saw the fighting with spears, they're waving and striking with them like they're twohanded swords, where are the piercing thrusts?
Seems to me those nerds have been locked away for too long and all they want to see is something massive being waved around, reason be damned.

Edited by: Corstaad on 19/03/2008 02:24:57 They don't have spears in-game, what you probably seen was a badily designed club or something . Some of the recent leaked youtube videos have looked pretty good though.
Hehe to add in one large posts on there offical forums someone displayed a EvE video of a BoB vs someone else fight. Everyone couldn't figure out why people played a game that spaceships shot at blue and red blobs.

Spear, halberd, whatever polearm it was one would expect it at some point to be used to poke with rather than wave around...

It has potential. The videos look very good; their forums remind me of WoW's. I'm optimistically hopeful.

Their combat system probably does that. If you use a sideways maneuver you won't stab, using a central one probably does. There is no auto-attack, you manually direct all attacks through 5 directions on a "combat rose" on your HUD.
Something like this:
1 2 3 Q|||E
Where 2 is a thrust through the centre and the others are directional swipes. Combos use a sequence of attacks through various points on the rose giving additional results.
Been following the game for a while now, looks promissing.

you press 1,2,3 to do different left right and overhead attacks, you can get combos that have special affects too. You do have polearms but they tend to be sweeping motions more than stabby stabby

Yeah I have been keeping an open mind about this one, it all depends on the pvp, I want there to be real reasons to pvp. I dont play wow, but I know a huge nuber of people that do play it, I have even sat and watched frieds while they have ran kara or cara, I've no idea how its spelt. But the grinding towards notting but fighting more npcs, or other players for noting other then doing something other then figthing npcs.
The game no matter how good it is, will never make me quit eve, but Im looking forward to trying it none the less.

the PvP in WoW is actually quite good fun, and a whole lot more spontaneous than EVEs. at least it was when i played.

afaik u have advantages like better resources if u hold territory and u get better equipment if you buy them from your "pvp"-points, but I can't tell for shure, just watched a trailer and forgot half of the content __________________________________________________

This was something that got "leaked" today, BAM!. Also was #1 selling PC game march 7th thru 14th on just pre-orders. I'll still have my EvE account but I can't wait for a decent sword and board pvp game.

I have said it before. I will say it i will continue to say it.
Stay away from AoC unless funcom drops all duties attached to it.
Funcom Devs it.
Funcom will GM it.
Funcom will run the game.
These three things alone, (being a former citizen of Rubi-ka aka an anarchy online player) have made sure i will never TOUCH this game. I cant stress this enough. Funcom has been worse than CCP. Do not touch this game. Dont waste your money pod pilots.

Earlier, I did not have any hope of playing Age of Conan, but then the game was delayed for quite a while and my laptop started dying while playing Eve.
So, now I got a new computer I assembled myself and a decent HD3870 graphics card and look forward to AoC.
AoC graphics looks nice, but I worry that the developers might not be interested in shaping the game into something that is as fascinating as Eve-Online.
I will of course be playing both Eve-Online and AoC.
