I am trying to get Multi Clients working under Hardy Heron
Computer: evga 680i, quadcore 6600, dual 8800gts, 4lcds eqach setup as their own instance of X (not twin view) Running the 170 beta nvidia drivers.
Eve runs great as a single client. It does have some sound issues if I run it and Team Speak at the same time. Mainly that TS steals the audio pipe some how. SO if I start Eve First TS cant grab audio and starts with no device / muted.
I also can not get more than one client to open properly. I tried following the instructions in the linux KB but they did not work. I got an error executing he launcher. (failed to execute child process "export" (no such file or directory)
can anyone help with this? I would really like to get 4 clients up, each on their own monitor.
Thanks!

Last time I checked, Teamspeak over ALSA wasn't released yet, so you have to start it with the alsa-over-oss proggy. Just install the aoss package and start teamspeak with $ aoss32 teamspeak. That "should" let you run teamspeak at the same time as Eve. With Dawn of War I've found starting TS first helps.
I apologize if you already know this. I'm running Gutsy and not having issues with multiple windows. And with aoss, no issues with TS.

I just copied the .cedega directory to .cedega2 and it worked, but I'm on 7.10, and haven't seen that error.

Figured it out! The launcher i was using could not handle a line break in script. made a new one on the desktop and now i just launch that script instead of trying to point the launcher at the directory. Bingo!

are you realy shure you actualy have to make another folder (copy) ? linux is a pretty neat system also applications dont "see" each other like in windows (they run separate data memory space) tho the file access might be problematic (file locks & such )
Gona try ubuntu+Eve today "eve-ning" see where it leads

as for the audio problem, it might be that your soundcard doesnt have hardware mixing and therefor only one device can access the audio. You will need some sort of audioserver or a bit of advanced audio configuration to get around that, I cant recall how its done exactly but a bit of googling should set you on the right path.

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo T8100, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA 8600 GT 512MB and have installed Ubuntu 8.04 Beta and are using two EVE clients at same time.
I got the same problem with launcher when following instructions on EVE homepage, but solved it by creating a file, eve_online_1.sh, and eve_online_2.sh , on desktop...
[eve_online_1.sh]
#!/bin/sh export CEDEGA_PATH=/home/YOUR USERNAME/.cedega && $CEDEGA_PATH/.updater/cedegaUpdateChecker -GAME EveOnline-linux
[eve_online_2.sh]
#!/bin/sh export CEDEGA_PATH=/home/YOUR USERNAME/.cedega2 && $CEDEGA_PATH/.updater/cedegaUpdateChecker -GAME EveOnline-linux
you have to make it excecutable by "chmod eve_online_1.sh +x" in a console. Then you can start it.
Hope it helped, Kalypsia

My soundcard will do mixing, I have the same problems on both my desktop and laptop system. both are very high end machines with mixing abilities. Something funky about EVE grabbing control of sound and it dont want to play with others very well.

Remember for sound issues that Hardy is now using pulse audio by default, and this may or may not be some of the issues with sound. Going into sound settings and forcing alsa as default may get around some of the issues. (Currently there are some known pulse audio issues with multiple applications including flash and other apps that are not setup to work with the pulse audio backend.) Wine is also not completely settled with regards to pulse audio at this point either --winehq reports that the devs would rather focus on alsa as opposed to "yet another partially working sound manager".
Just fyi.

using alsa, doesnt fix it. eve is really the only app that im having trouble with as far as sound. It wont work if any other app , including other instances of itself want to access the playback device. |
