Edited by: Andvari on 13/04/2004 16:46:45 I, Andvari, will be holding a raffle to give away my Typhoon-class Minmatar battleship that I recently aquired.
ò Raffle tickets are 500,000 ISK a piece. ò Members of Ominous Corp may not participate. ò In order to prevent Ominous alts from participating, characters that are members of NPC corporations with no other employment history may not participate.
If you would like to participate: ò Send a sum of ISK (500,000 for every ticket you would like) to Andvari, with the Give Money Reason "battleship raffle". Important: Amounts that are not factors of 500,000 will be considered a friendly donation. If the words "battleship raffle" do not appear as the reason for the money sent, it will be considered a donation. ò You will recieve an EVEmail with ticket number(s) on it. ò On the day of the giveaway, join channel "The Great Battleship Raffle" where I will announce the winner. ò You do not need to be in the channel to win. ò The winner can pick up their new battleship in Yulai (at a station that I will specify later)
More about this event: Tickets are available now and will no longer be available at the start of downtime, 11:00 GMT, Sunday the 18th. All ticket purchases after this time will be refunded, though I do reserve the right to accept late ticket purchases.
I'm going to use the random number generator from http://www.random.org/ to pick a random ticket number. This is the best possible way I can assure a fair random ticket selection.
(Edited: Updated to clarify better exactly when ticket sales ended.) (Edited: Update to the rules.)
The Great Battleship Raffle is not associated with BIG Games or any of its affilliates.

Edited by: Haratu on 12/04/2004 06:12:15 You have placed the tickets at 500,000 isk and given us a week to pay, a time in which you are unlikely to get 200 tickets... this is such a short time that you have already eliminate two thirds your potential customer base.
I suggest you either lower your ticket cost or/and increase your time.
If you look at BIG, they sell tickets at 1000 isk and give at least a fornight and they have difficulties getting the required 50mill... yet you are asking for 100mill (200x500,000) I recommend you give a month to the raffle.

First of all, unlike BIG, I am not a corporation. I do not have any members to fall back on should my investment not bear fruit.
Second of all. I would be cheating myself if I lowered ticket prices. Earning 500k ISK is not really that hard. It can be done in anywhere from an hour to a day's worth of gameplay, depending on your play style and what you are doing. I am giving away a battleship worth more than 100 times the cost of the ticket. One thing I feel that sets this aside from BIG games is that I am offering a fully assembled battleship, not ISK as the prize.
I may extend the period to two weeks if interest is steady but I haven't met my limit, however I am not promising this. I feel that a month is too long for people to wait and that many would lose interest if I made them wait that long for the prize to be given away.
I'm sorry if you feel that the terms I have set for this contest are two restricting, Haratu, however I would appreciate it if you wouldn't make such disparaging, sweeping comments about an event that hasn't even had a chance to bear fruit yet. Thank you.

hmmm you want to sell atleast 200 tickets otherwise the raffle stops. But the thing is that's quite a nice earning for you, cause 200 tickets X 500.000isk = 100.000.000
The Battleship you give away to the winner is only worth 65.000.000!
that's like a 35.000.000 right in you pocket Not a bad way to try earning money check our intro movie and our website! ::: http://clik.to/M8S |

I'm actually trying to make up for a bit more than just a mere 65M ISK. The aquisition of this ship was somewhat costly, selling 200 tickets would only net me a profit of about 10M. You can bet that future raffles will be priced more reasonably based on the cost of the battleship.
I'm doing this for two reasons, really:
1) Make a bit of money and 2) find out if there's a market for ths sort of game.
I find it odd that the only responses here have been "pooh-pooh" type posts. Everyone that I talked to about it (a mixed group of 0.0 and Empire players) were very interested and I've already sold a number of tickets. Think about it. For a mere 500k ISK, you could have a ship worth more than 50M ISK. Can't fly it? No problem, sell it or recycle it.

I think its a great idea and when I get home from work I will be buying a ticket.
Why do people feel the need to put down ideas like this? Does a national lottery payout every single penny it pulls in? Nope. Organisers should be entitled to a share of the money. Darwin 4tw

Alright. Just to show how serious I am, as there seem to be a few people who are skeptical: I will be giving the battleship away regardless of the amount of tickets sold.
That's right. I've lost it and have gone crazy. If you participate, there is a 100% chance that you be in the drawing for winning a battleship.

This is a great idea and though I can't pilot minmatar BS, I am sure some of my corp members will like it. It makes me think if I should start an Lottery of my Raven BS as well :)
It is a good deal for both, the customer and the lotteryholder!

My apologies.

Edited by: Andvari on 18/04/2004 13:38:19 Well, the winner was ticket #131, AtomicFishStick.
Unfortunately, I didn't sell nearly as many tickets as I had hoped for. I lost a lot of money, (about 70M) but I guess it was a gamble for me too.
I am considering a better planned, better advertised raffle at a later date for two Claw Interceptors. Ticket prices are not determined at this time.
I applaude and thank all who participated and hope the winner enjoys his new Typhoon.
Thank you and goodnight, ladies and gentlemen.

I don't get it, you got 65.5M in tickets, give a battleship worth 65-70M away and lose 70 million?

In any case you did well in your first event. Tornsoul's BIG lottery hasnt made a dime during the 12 months it has been running.
Not that we regret anything - it has been quite rewarding in other areas. It's hard to build a rep as trustworthy, but when you have earned the trust of the community a *lot* of opportunities open for you.
Hang in there and have patience. If you do this honestly for 4-6 months people are going to trust you with larger projects :)

Edited by: Makhar on 29/04/2004 10:55:57 Throw me an eve mail when/if you start the second round, you can count me in for at least one ticket, maybe a couple :)
Games like this make the whole game more interesting. You deserve to make some profit for organising it, so don't listen to the people who have posted thinking you should be a charity case! A 1/200 chance at winning a battleship worth upwards of 65m is worth 500k of anybody's money :)
