Edited by: Aeo IV on 18/03/2008 20:29:30 How would you go about tanking an Industrial against Suicide Gankers?
Seeing as they're already so fragile, I was thinking along the lines of using jammers to jam the attacking ship(s), but I imagine that would be rather difficult.

If you're going to be using jammers it means you'll be active at your pc and you wont die.

Edited by: Wanna Kill on 18/03/2008 21:49:24 As Shigsy said, the best way to ''tank'' them is to avoid them in the first place by being active. If you have spare cargo-bay, remove some expanders for i-stabs/nanos for faster aligning so you minimize the time where you are subject to scanning.
If you absolutely must afk, use an interceptor with the old block-on-f1-trick (where your mwd is keyed to f1). Or, actually, anything with an MWD. The faster the ship (aligning + accelerating + to some extend velocity) the 'better' at this tactic, obviously. Also try to avoid the hubs/highways.
Edit: Also, they'd scan you anyway, so they'd know that they would just have to alpha you before you could lock them back (takes ******* long to lock in an industrial, ever tried the battlebadger? . For every sensor-booster (youd still lock WAY way too slow) you loose out on your un-bonused e-war). An Iteron V has around 4.5k effective hp without any resistance-mods/platings, which really isnt that hard to get through for any ganker worth his salt. You can't really prevent the suiciders from killing you by tanking your ship, as soon as they open fire its usually over (of course, there are the awesome stories about the noob-gankers who fires just as the hauler enters warp ) ----------

Shield extenders and passive hardeners. Or active hardeners I guess if you're going to be sitting at your PC and are paranoid, but as other have said this is unlikely to be an issue.
It's all about the effective HP. Get these as high as you can by whatever measure (i.e. combination of damage types) you deem appropriate.

Simple truth is that if your cargo is worth it - there is no defence.
Blokade runners have a chance with a low full of i stabs - ceptors for bp's.
Basically do not much a quantity of isk in a t1 indy. |

It's also quite advantageous to fit a cloaking device on the indy, if you emerge from a gate that looks like there might be gank squad waiting for you, just cloak and allign manually while cloaked, uncloak and warp, it might not be the best solution, but what else would you fit on an industrial ship's high slot? Nos maybe?

The best way to avoid suicide gankers is to maximise the effective hitpoints of your ship and minimise the align time. This is the setup I use for a Mammoth:
[Mammoth, New Setup 1] Damage Control II Local Hull Conversion Inertial Stabilizers I Local Hull Conversion Inertial Stabilizers I Local Hull Conversion Inertial Stabilizers I
Medium Shield Extender II Medium Shield Extender II Medium Shield Extender II Invulnerability Field II Invulnerability Field II
Improved Cloaking Device II Salvager I
Cargohold Optimization I Cargohold Optimization I Cargohold Optimization I
The trade off here is in cargo space, but it still has enough room for a fair bit of loot. It has a corgo hold of a little over 10k m3 (more with 3 x GSC), align time of 7 secs and around 22k hit points with the invul fields overheated.
When flying it with a full load of mission loot / salvage (usually worth 300M - 500M) I follow some basic rules:
1 Never fly afk, make use of warp to zero 2 Keep an eye out for ship types usually used for suicide ganking 3 If there are any of these ship types, after giving the warp command, activate the damage control and overheat the mid slots. If anything targets you, activate the (overheated) hardners 4 If you need to go afk, either dock or safespot and cloak 5 Use insta undock bookmarks when undocking. This will stop anyone from cargo scanning you as you undock.
The istabs are probably the most useful thing on this, they greatly reduce the time anyone has to cargo scan you and they save time on the longer journeys. Though it's tank has yet to be tested, I'd give it a good chance against a battlecruiser or three. Any team of gankers with over around 1.5k dps will be able to take it out in the lower sec high-sec systems though.
The salvager is there for the return journey, just in case you come across some wrecks.
If I'm moving small, high-value goods, I use a fast aligning cruiser with a good buffer tank. A polycarb'ed Vagabond is idea for this.

Originally by: Asania Dre (great setup)
i use the same but with field extender rigs,
ive even had that 3 domi's tried to suicide me in high sec, but they only got me to about 30% shields before concord showed up, the downside on mine is offcourse the even smaller cargohold, but for what i use it for its acceptable.
its not invincible though, all ships will die if someone is determined enough to kill you. in highsec, just dont give them a reason(never fly 400 mill+ at once, split it up. never afk. and the other tips asania already gave)

Mastodon with: 3x large shield extenders t2 (fit with lvl5 skills or best named if you have lvl4s)
lows full of cargo expanders (maybe one DCII if you want extra survivability)
rigs 2x cargo hold (or shield rigs if you paranoid, i would recomend shield hp amount rigs)
you end up with close to 11k shields and 29k m3 cargo with plain T2 resistances in "biggest hold" setup
more resistances you put lower cargo hold will be, all depend on how big volumes you carry and they price tag, lower volume bigger price tag requires better protection. |

or fast transporting interceptor:
maladiction
3x medium shield extenders t2 (4.5k shield hp) or best named if your fitting skill not permit it 2x auxilary power control (nameds) 1x republic fleet overdrive (this gives a kick)
2x auxilary thruster rigs (for afk travel)
cargo hold over 100m3 warp speed 13.5 au/s shields: 4.5k base speed: 750m/s |
