A recent post (again) mentioned 'free warping' ie. warping to any location in space
this is possibly one of the most needed features in eve, playability wise, currently people can create a safespot bookmark, and then warp to that, and there is no chance in h... you can get to them.
with a new warpoption "WARP STRAIGHT AHEAD ***km" you would select the option, then type in a number of km's and you'd warp in the direction your ship is pointing , so you would have to align it manually to go someplace specific.
this way you would really bring the directional scanner into play, as you could pinpoint people in space combine that with range scan and you would be able to warp to their approximate position.

Good stuff! Like it... That is all I can say, i can not add or take from your superb answer to the free warp idea.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |

How about you enlighten us rather than be of no use whatsoever? ------- Your 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun perfectly strikes Guardian Enforcer, wrecking for 827.3 damage. |

Ranged scans -> Directional scan, narrow field of vision til you get the person, mwd towards.

Yeah right. Unless the safe spot is at something like 1 AU from you, or more... 1 AU = 150.000.000 km, you know ?

The max scanner range is about 15 AUs. And there are ways of creating safespots 100s of AUs away from someone...

100+AU safespots are easy to find
Basically, if you know where a guy warped to, it's relatively easy for a scanner-poweruser to get to that place.
I'm not one of those people, but ask Xetic about losing all those ships at the safespot :)

Edited by: kurg on 13/04/2004 18:09:42 mmm ok disco lets say.. fairly fast mwd ship sustaining 5000m/s
and you intend to catch someone at a safespot lets go easy on it and say its 1au away....
1au = 150 milion km according to my physics book
so you find it easy to mwd 150.000.000 km / 5000 m/s = 347.22 days ....
well be my guest.. but out of curiocity... how many times have you done that ? I mean you are so sure its 'easy' that you must have some experience?

No need to, kurg.
You know at what position they are, and tyou probably know how they got there (following the warp tunnel from planet A to B, making a bookmark in midspace).
So, you do the same.
Don't worry, though, there will be modules to find people in midspace

Edited by: kurg on 14/04/2004 12:59:26 yes ive tried that strategy, but 'midwarp' is a 'large place'
and the time it takes makes i hopeless in finding someone that warped to a safespot and then sits there slagging you off in local.
if you find him after hours of warps narrowing him down, he will just warp to a new spot.
modules sounds nice, but really the option to just warp some distance in some direction, ought to be there, it nonsense that you have to use the bookmark in midwarp hack

It's not that hard to create a safespot that isn't on a 'warp tunnel' simply by warping between two other safespot BMs. Indeed using the F11 map you can happily warp to a location that takes ages to reach even if you know where the location is, never mind trying to use a directional scanner. Still, the whole thing will be academic when ships come in that can follow through warp.
As to the 'free warp' idea - that would be a triple MWD setup I guess :-)

Edited by: kurg on 14/04/2004 15:40:31 possibly the warp straight ahead shouldbe in at least 1000km ? or in multiples of that?
but really, if instajumps were removed it wouldnt be a problem at all.
