Edited by: banannagirl on 19/03/2008 12:08:48 If titans effect planets tides due to their massive size why is it that they dont effect POS'.
If you read the original description of titans you will see that the EVE team must have been a little hung over when they created TITANS.
Titans dont need to SHOOT POS' they will cause the POS to break orbit and and burn up in the moons atmosphere LMAO. The Titans effect on a moon would pull it out of orbit. You can't fly a titan near a moon - somehwere people have forgotten the storyline in regards to Titans - due to this they have now become another cruiser or frigate.
Too easy to build and too many in game ...!
KEEP tot the storyline PLEASE .....!
TITANS

iirc Pod pilot Titans and the Titans fielded by the 4 empire's aren't the same thing. The latter being much much larger ofc.
I'll try and find where i read that though. I'm hoping it's not under a rug somewhere like the ships crew stats

This does not surprise me. But since you're a good sport chew on this:
The moon affects the tides on Earth: true. People have erected various manmade space stations in orbit around Earth since the 1970s and the moon has failed to rip them out of orbit: also true.
??????

Titans would pull moons out of orbit and cause system CHAOS and destruction ... maybe startin a chain reaction that would bring down the whole REGION ....!

A few notes: (1) Even the big titans are supposed to have hard limits on keeping away from planets, so that they don't mess up with the tides and so on. (2) POS does have engines to keep it in place, so the smallest fluctuations in the gravity would likely be corrected by the control tower's maneuvering boosters.
Of course, (2) is only in effect if you think how it's done in Real Life(tm) - the ISS* has thrusters to keep it in the right position and orbit. Then again, gravity isn't an ingame phenomenon, either.
*) ISS, by the way, is about the size of a Boeing 747 or an EVE frigate, so even the small POS are just plain huge constructs when scaled against real world space programs.

I mean, sure there big, but not THAT big.

This is the same atmosphere that Neil Armstrong said smelled like cookies and cream when he visited the moon, right?
So if a POS can have shields of mighty doom it's not reasonable to assume it can compensate for a bitty little titan swinging by?

The Gallente Federation Solteur wasn't that big the last time I saw it. I think an Avatar is 2-3 times the size of that puppy. -------------------------------------------

POS are "anchored". Whatever that means we can presume the POS uses some method to keep itself in place. Whether that is station keeping engines or some subspace, quantum bubble hoo-hah take your pic.
And while people here seem to hate any comparisons to reality the description of EVE Titans affecting tides is waaaay off how it would work (yes technically they do affect the tides...you in orbit would affect the tides...but the effect would be so tiny as to be unnoticeable).
Some comparisons:
Avatar 1,687,500,000 kg (billion)
Moon 73,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg (sextillion)
Pyramids 11,800,000,000 kg (billion)
So, the Egyptian pyramids are about 7x more massive than an Avatar. You don't see cars and people flying into them pulled their by gravity do you? -------------------------------------------------- "Of course," said my grandfather, pulling a gun from his belt as he stepped from the Time Machine, "there's no paradox if I shoot you!"

Im pretty sure the Titans mentioned in that Chronicle are not the same as pod pilots Titans.
For example, with our Titans moon minerals arent used to build them and they dont take decades to build.
I think the chronicle is talking about ages old Titans belonging to the empires.

Everything in prime fiction is up to date. Everything. Really. Can I say it once more? Everything in prime fiction works exactly how it says, in the game.
