Edited by: Avalira on 19/03/2008 21:27:20 Edit: Just realised there was another post about this. Can threads be merged?
I made a summary of the latest live devblog for those who don't feel like listening to the whole thing, although for more information it is a good idea :) . Please note that I am not typing word for word what is being said nor am I quoting anything. So if you want to know precisely what was said, listen to the blog!
Highlights: Devs: Mindstar Zulupark (Game design) Fendahl (Game design) Kronotis (Game design + Carebear Dev) Greyscale (Exploration, probing etc...) Lamoose (Game design, the NPC guy)
Thoughts Greyscale: Exploration and probe mechanics work Not very exciting, too much pressing of buttons and waiting Want to rewrite it: make it more involving and use player skills + character skills. Will touch on cloaking (no solid plans) Possibly simplifying the UI and putting it all in one window.
Kronotis: Orca, high-sec cousin to the Rorqual Improvement to salvage system Streamlining the UI Looking into the insurance system
Lamoose: Wants to make NPC's more interesting and more challenging by giving them behaviours to make missions more varied and challenging. More dynamic PVE experience. Smuggeling, Bounty Hunting and law & security on the drawing board System for Bounty Hunting, eg making kill-rights tradeable. Use Bounty Hunting and smuggeling to encourage people into low-sec. Possible player-police in low-sec. Fendahl: UI feels too much like windows 3.1 Buttons too small, too much cluttering Improve the usability of the UI (eg the HUD) Improving reloading ammo type by grouping guns into one button. Enhancing clone-vat bays. Want to change MS and Titans to be more mobile stations. Also changing the 24 hour clone-jump limit with MS and Titans.
Zulupark Wants us to know that CCP are improving things outside of the EVE client, eg splitting the GTC and Character sales forums. Clarification of forum topics Publish a series of Dev-blogs touching on the direction CCP wants EVE to move to. New types of frigates, eg command frigates. Fixing boring, tedious and unbalanced stuff.
Questions: 1) Will we get more keyboard shortcuts? Fendahl: Yes. Controling EVE with just the keyboard could be a benifit
2) Are there any plans to expand on the smaller fonts and buttons? Fendahl: Yes.Want to use scalable vector graphics (ie scalable buttons).
3) Are there any plans to revamp sound? Fendalh: Yes, that's another thing we want to look into.
4) Will we be able to change the volume of individual sound effects? Fendahl: Good point. There should be ways to do it.
5) Will we get custom UI interfaces? Fendahl: It's tricky as there are lots of pros and cons. Might give too much of an advantage to older players. Another issue is how much of the UI can be customised.
6) What is on the drawing board for exploration? Greyscale: Two things being addressed. First is the mechanisms of exploration. Second is content (see what can be improved and revisit the whole thing).
7) What is happening to local? Greyscale: A few options are being looked at, one is having the amount of pilots in local displayed but not who it is until the pilot speaks. Changing local needs more support from the rest of the UI.
8) Are there any discussions to encourage players into low-sec and 0,0? Greyscale: Bounty-hunting, smuggeling, etc. Rewards with level 5 missions fixed so they should pay out better. The low-sec reward is good but risk too high -> looking at ways to reduce risk, eg helping players police areas. Low-sec should be an intermediate land between high-sec and 0.0.
9) What is the use of session timers? Greyscale: They are needed because of technical details and prevents people from being stuck in-between ½ systems + or ships... ------------- Selling prob BPC's

10) Will chance-based game-play with regards to salvaging and hacking be looked into? Khronotis: Yes, the current mechanic of slavage + fail, salvage + fail, etc... is not great. Might change it to time-based with success at the end. They are trying to making it more interesting,
11) Are block-ops getting boosted? Zulupark: They are pre-nerfed. Might split the cargo bay into a fuel bay + cargo bay to increase the max fuel a BO can carry.
12) Are AF being looked at? Zulupark: The intended role was to make it anti-frig or anti-small ship. AF's should have been boosted in the boost patch but need to rethink it. Might give it webifying resistance (not invulnerable to webs!) to give a bigger role against bigger ships.
13) Is there any way to counter cloaking? Zulupark: This ties in to what Greyscale was talking about in regards to local chat and exploration. Perhaps giving probing ships the ability to scan non-cloaking designed ships (eg battleships). Perhaps also adding fuel cost to non-covert ops ships. Still looking at options.
14) Any info on stealth bombers? Zulupark: The cost of bombs will be reduced.
15) What are the thoughts on speed-tanking. Zulupark: Being looked into, especially ships that are not designed to go fast (eg nano-raven or nano-titan). Looking at perhaps reducing the effect of speed rigs and mods, stacking nerf. Fast ships like interceptors and vagabonds not effected to much.
16) What is the current though on capital ships? Zulupark: Not exactly at the point CCP hoped they would be used for. Something needs to be done and find a common ground for ship roles and uses.
The end. ------------- Selling prob BPC's

Not sure if you left it out on purpose but Greyscale also mentioned getting rid of local (sneakily worded as reworking intell tools).
Anyway thx for write up. - - -

Good that they realize that simply forcing ppl into low sec (e.g. moving all lvl4 missions there) is a non-starter.

Maybe this time they wont "forget" to put lvl 5 agents in 0.0 NPC space. Syndicate lacks lvl 5 agents for example...

Much, much thanks for this Avalira. I really try to listen to these things but always get fidgetty and start googling stuff then realise I've blanked 10 minutes of good stuff. Last time I purposely walked away from the comp and sat on my bed to listen, then literally fell asleep somewhere in question 2 (no offence to Fendahl intended).
Live devblog is just not a format I get along with. _

Thank you very much Avalira - excellent work :)
Why would CCP give a live devblog transcript: - entails resources - there are awesome players (like Avalira) that will do it for them - what is written is harder to defend then what is said (imo)

Hmm...wonder if everyone involved in the endless Goonswarm discussions have seen that? Of course, I see no specifics there, so there isn't much to say

About that comment concernign Capital ships.
Quote: Zulupark: Not exactly at the point CCP hoped they would be used for. Something needs to be done and find a common ground for ship roles and uses.
Are they complaining about blobbing or maybe they don't like people using Dreads, carriers and others to haull with?
Quote: Wants to make NPC's more interesting and more challenging by giving them behaviours to make missions more varied and challenging.
This comment scares me, they already have STEADILY nerfed mission rewards through various way over the last year...now what??

Yes, because we all know that Nano Ravens and Nano Titans are such a serious problem, I mean they're practically popping up all over the place. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE TO THOSE TWO SHIPS SPECIFICALLY TO FIX THE SPEED PROBLEM!!!!!111eleventyone

So was this the plan? Move all lvl 4's into 0.4 AND make it even easier for people to scan out larger ships? Or did i get that wrong? Please tell me i did because i think it sucks already that mission runners can be scanned out.
