I think it would be good, small addition to our game.
Option in esc menu, where you check or uncheck if you want to receive eve-mails on your e-mail box (e-mail defined in account details).
How would it work? Very simple. E-mail from field should contain Char name sending evemail. E-mail subject should have format [evemail tab] - [evemail subject], for example Inbox - test subject or Corp - test subject
There should be no possibility to use reply to

Would it not just be easier to provide a web interface through the website for it?

This could be a whole can of worms to open up.
By piping out the eve-mails to realworld email, then CCP will have to setup a proxy server which will change the "eve-mails" to an "email" format. They would also have to give every character an "@eve-online.com" address so the mails don't just get dumped as spam and/or potentially damaging files before reaching the receipiant. Once you get that taken care of you need to decide if you want to also allow emails to be sent "into" the game from an external address. If you allow that then guess what we get? spam. and I already get enough of that from isk sellers.
If those problems are solved then I think that would be great.

The restrictions on characters allowed in names is greater than those allowed in emails (like my name for example), and as such conversion could create abiguity. If they change ' to - and a space to _ for example, then what's to stop someone creating a character called j-mkarr_soban, to which all mails get sent to?
At least using a web-based interface you could use the eve directory directly.
