I thought what I'de do was pick the department of Gallante Federal Customs I worked for carefully. I'm not anti-combat but I didn't want this character to be combat orientated so I choose administration.
Low and behold my agent pops up and gives me a combat mission. I'm not geared for combat in either equipment or skills so I turned the mission down and in the process probably damaged my standing with the agent and the Gallante Federal Customs.
What's the point of giving agents departments if the missions they dole out aren't appropriate?
I suggest this is something that CCP should look at. It's kinda ruined the immersive experience I've been building up for myself in the last few days.
Not a major gripe in the grand scheme of things but it's bugged me big time.

Administration agents give out a variety of missions. If you were looking for transport missions you would want a "supply" or "logistics" agent. "Security" agents will give out mostly combat missions.
It might also be worth noting that "customs" can be a dangerous ocupation that may require shotting people like smugglers/drug runners. I would expect the missions in "customs" to be more combat than otherwise.

Edited by: Syphin on 12/04/2004 19:26:10 In my experience Administration is a mix of all types of missions. If you do not want combat i suggest you look under the storage deparment. My last storage agent was about 95% courier missions with a few mining ones thrown in.

Thanks for the advice people.
I'll switch to another department.
It's something interesting to add to my bio.

Original post might sounded a bit negative. Not a projection on how I feel about the game in general.

But a good point does come of this, agent missions don't collerate with the agent's jobs very well. For example, administrative, now, that sounds quite exciting, if you hadn't played the game, or were quite naive, you may think a mission along the lines of being told to throw a party for someone who is retiring would be given out (buying luxury goods, being given a hint as to what the person likes, such as holoreels, finding a good location, and transporting the guests), maybe thats alot to ask for, but, my point is, none of the missions seem to entail what the agents suggest. Yeah, its a huge feature request, but I think it would be pretty cool to be able to work your way up, and then ask agents to give out certain missions (say you need someone to transport the stuff for you, for this party), hope that makes sense.
Maybe I'm being a bit too fantastical, I dunno, still they should at least create more missions so that even if the missions are essentially the same, they seem to fit in better with the respective departments.

Sorry, I was under the impression DEPARTMENTS don't matter at all. Last I heard (and someone can correct me if I'm wrong on this) that the only thing that has a bearing on what kind of missions you'll be primarily given will be what kind of corporation you're working for. Work for the Navy and you'll get tons of combat missions. Work for a freight company and you'll get tons of hauling missions. That and you can't completely avoid getting the other mission types, they'll just come far less frequently. ___winterblink/warp_drive_active/eve_nature_vraie// |

WinterBlink post makes more sense to me as well. Maybe I should try to do some agent missions. Just for a change hehe.
