I see in ship set ups, different people use different named heavy missile launchers.
Is there a single clear best choice to use with a prophecy? Is it based on heat damage or rate of fire, or a combination?

if the 'arbalest' heavy missile launcher is too expensive for you go for the xr-3200 heavy missile bay but thats my suggestion

Navy missile launchers are going to be the best, but like the Arbalest they tend to cost several million ISK each. These are sometimes preferred over T2 launchers because they are easier to fit. If you do have the spare CPU/PG available and have the requisite skills just go T2.

You can generally tell the best item by it's Meta Level ie: Makluth has a Meta Level of 2 and Arbalest has a Meta Level of 4.
Arbalest is actually better than T2 in some fittings because it has far less power/cpu requirements and doesn't rquire Heavy Missile Specialisation. |

Pull up the Show Info window for one of these launchers. Select the Variations tab. Down at the bottom there will be a Compare button, click it. That'll pull up the variations and their stats in a nice grid. You can sort on any of the columns.
I typically sort by type first (t1/t2/faction/officer) then highlight and remove the officer/faction gear from the list (right-click menu) when I'm only interested in standard named components.

But, on the flipside, it doesn't benefit from Missile Specialisation either...

No it doesnt. However, ROF>2% damage of a rank5 skill per level when it means you can fit the modules you want to fit due to far better fitting requirements.
For those that do not have weapon upgrades 5 & advanced at 5, fitting a full rack of T2 launchers can be a pain.
The choice of best named or T2 doesn't matter a lot dmg wise if you only have 1 bay slot anyway.

Edited by: Boon McBwen on 07/05/2008 18:24:17 and don't forget, you can load navy missiles into your t1 launchers and get about the same perfomance as the T2 missiles.

Edited by: Kneebone on 07/05/2008 19:10:22 For mission running its best to go with the XR or Arby if you can afford them. Fit faction missles and you will get T2 performance out of it. Faction heavies do a few points less then then T2 High Damage missles and have the range/speed of the precision missles, 1 missle for all ranges.
If you are looking to fit lowsec or PvP then go with the Limos launchers. They are a good all around mod.
If you are starved for CPU then the Malkuth launchers are you best bet. They are nice and cheap as well.
Enjoy the boom!

If you want quality t1 'Arbalest' launchers are best named, the next step would be Caldari Navy - they are powerful launchers, however I beg to differ about them being "The Best". Officer Launchers are the best, but they are incredibly pricy - Estamel launchers are the best in the game I believe. ____________________
