What information is CCP getting and what are they doing with it? I know that the current release looks to your PC to see what graphics settings are available. That and related issues I would have no problem with because it's being used by the client and not leaving my computer. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Because Microsoft does not deem this information private.

Edited by: Procurer Fennika on 21/03/2008 18:21:48 What if i will ask a lawyer specializing at privacy? Or what can CCP say about about built-in telnet service? I don't want any access to my PC from CCP programmers or whoever can use it :)
It would be also nice to know, why EVE client receives critical information about my system i do not want to redistribute (like product-id, hostname, workgroup name e.t.c) in a stealthy way (when constantly loaded debugger with notification on certain kernel function calls notices nothing, maybe i should try another function calls to monitor - ones used in rootkits)?

How about you get to your point instead of making vague allegations.
Do you feel that CCP is removing information from your computer, transmitting it to a foreign computer, and using it for their own personal gain?
Do you have any proof? -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Yes i'm feeling i have. Proof - would packet dump with that data work?
I have to notice i have Microsoft CryptoAPI service replaced with my own library i using sometime for my work. The only difference it logs all calls to functions within this library. Oh my god... i also have some function names like original advapi32.dll had.... So i assume CCP won't like me publishing that packet dump :)

IIRC CCP is working closely together with Microsoft and are allowed access to Windows by means integrated into the OS to gain identification which is also used by Microsoft for identifying Windows versions and registered customers. This information is used in bans which allows CCP to bar individual computers from accessing EvE.
If you have issues with that, uninstall Windows. -------- Ideas for: Mining Clouds

They may have consider function names or variable names as their property. But their values, stored on my PC, entered by me - are mine private information. Until CCP will make a public announcement and remove this. Or there will happen a kernel-level solution to disallow OS "share" this information with certain applications (EVE will be first in list) i will surely advertise to use here and on other forums related to eve, as well as on fan-sites (sourcecode will be included).

Yes, thats private information, not intended for ingame use. If you don't care about it - don't anwser here. CCP didn't even bother to notify customers like me about this :) But they had :)

Well, to bad. It's pretty hard to play an online game without the server knowing where you are. But if you are so smart, why not redirect your IP so the server thinks it is sending to a computer in another continent than yours?
Must say, this "stop the share of information, CCP is evil and I got the solution!" sounds like a keylogger scam, to be honest. "Hey all, CCP are stealing from you. Use this program to stop them."... Yes, I like my tinfoil pirate hat

So you seriously consider your IP address private, even when on any internet forum you post on a moderator can easily do an IP check on you. Your IP address is hardly private.

I don't care about IP of my WAN interface. And there are still question about things, hidden in eve that shouldn't be there, after this "theft" of network location details.
