The problem is not the CSM's possible lack of impact. It is that they will become unecessary middlemen between the community and the developers. We have a direct line of communication, if the devs cannot spare an hour or two each week to catch up on what is being discussed on the forums then they can hire a staff member or two to flag threads of interest to the community that may require attention.
The CSM will lead to all the issues found in any representative body, it will not truly represent those who elect it's members, it will only represent the opinions of the CSM. Worse it will be a popularity contest. It will enable the shrugging off of issues and scapegoating of it's membership should things go wrong.
The opinions of the CSM will not be the opinions of the community, some of our opinions may well make their way through the CSM, with the members personal bias applied, but such opinions will bypass the usual levels of transparency and discussion seen on these forums as hellish as they are at times.
The entire idea is a flawed concept. When you have access to the views of your community members without the need for middlemen then you must question the purpose of implementing a council.
This is a small section of the internet. It is not the USA, it is not the UK, it is not a representative democracy. We have the tools available for each player to represent their opinion should they so choose via threads, posts, top 10's, and other methods not currently employed such as anonymous polls and other forms of feedback. We should be forwarding such methods not implementing pointless systems that can distort such feedback purely for the sake of media attention.

I'd also add that I'd like a group to 'dig in all the holes' and make sure CCP are doing things right - but I think it should be a lottery, and no two people should go twice. That way a fresh eye is always cast over the situation as a whole, and you can't load someone ahead of time with things to say. Gives them a chance to randomly sample the opinions of the population, and at the same time gives the same random sample a chance to talk about their little corner of Eve, and provides the whole community with the knowledge that CCP are above board.

I think it's hard for the CSM candidates to please everyone.
For one group, they'll be yes-men if they agree with CCP, and for an equally large group, they're nothing more than whiners if they go against what CCP wants.
I'll just be me and I'm open to all the ideas from my target audience, and if I get elected I'll relay them all to CCP, whenether they agree with them or not. ---

I think it's worth bearing in mind that one person can be a CSM twice for a period of 6 months each occasion. It's to be a representative of the entire playerbase.
In GM Xhagen's fanfest presentation, there was interesting information on what CCP expect the CSM's to do and it's something I will be bearing in mind. It is also very interesting in how the playerbase can overrule CSM's as well.
We all have to bear in mind this is a new version of the CSM role. The previous version was CCP handpicked candidates. Obviously a lot of candidates expect to win on the strength of their alliances or the various cards they play. We shall see, as this is an open and anonymous vote.
Good luck to all.

Did they change the reason for the CSM?? I though CCP was trying to show how honest they are now. You know the æinternal investigationÆ group you never hear from. Of course when you did hear from them it was æno cheating here, logs show nothing unusual.Æ
Now CSM isn't even going to be what it strated out to be.

I would like to see CCP spend the money instead on hiring 3 professional QA people for a year rather then deviate from the original intent of this so-called council.

News at 6: Le Skunk chooses to use a cleverly veiled 'anti-council' message as his campaign slogan to get himself on the council. Chance of success calculated at 89.34%.

Forum rabblers like Skunkie should continue to entertain on the forums. Not as a member of the CSM. |

U can count on this, if ccp finds out they can get more subscribers (=monies) going down one route or another, they will, mebbe not cuz they like it but because it is just solid business management and money making.
Anyways i think this Council of Awesomeness is a screwed up idea and should be cancelled while they still can. _______________________________________________________ CCP, let us pay the online shop with Direct Debit!!!
