Ok heres the deal, I mine and transport ore, I am doing this while I learn skills and build up my cash. However I am in a corp that thinks its fun to take on everyone so I am constantly running into wartargets all over the place, usually this leads to me having to park in astation and call it a day.
What I am looking for basicly is advice on two things, One: a ship I can use to run errands in to pick up random books and things I buy, something fast I guess that has a chance of getting through a guarded gate or a system with enemies. Two: a ship that I can possibly fight back in, say against a few people at a gate or the random pirate that comes and attacks me while mining. Right now I just have to run away, I know I cant take on a determined gate camp team but mostly I am just running into random wartargets that just love to kill me for the fact that they can. Im looking for something I can bring out to at least try and scare them off or perhaps force my way though a gate, for now I am pretty much stuck with frigs and cruisers I wont be going up to bs for a while since I am focusing on mining , but I have a lot of fighting skills and most races frigs and cruisers learned already. Thanks for any advice.

1) try using a shuttle, or if you have the skills, an interceptor. both nearly insta-warp and have a small sig radius so it is hard for your war targets to lock them. the 'ceptor is better because you can fit modules to help escape from camps, and have a larger cargohold (about 150m3 compared to 10m3). probably the best ship for this job is a blockade runner T2 hauler, which has a fairly large cargohold, and aligns quite quickly.
2)cruisers would probably be better for you, for battleships you really need decent support skills as well as the ship skills, and cruisers are a lot cheaper if you can't kill the war target. seeing a battleship with small/medium guns tells you that the pilot probably isn't well skilled in it (a notable exception is a Dominix, because most of the damage comes from the domi's drones, and after a nice tank there isn't the powergrid for a rack of large guns). also, try asking your corp if they are running any ganksquads looking for your war targets, and go around with them for a bit or tip them off when you run into any gatecamps

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 22/03/2008 22:15:32 As to #2; in your situation fighting back is your worst decision. They're set up for pvp, have friends, more SP and experience... you're don't. Even if you WOULD make a pvp ship stick to the goon tradition and get a cheap ship with a cheap fit cause you'll lose it anyway.
Getting into a cruiser would just mean your lossmail would be more costly. Also forget about the bigger=better thing, hoping you'll scare people. In fact you draw more attention since you're a fatter target.
Like the little fish in a pond your best bet to survive is to stay unseen and to run away from any sort of trouble until you're a bigger fish yourself. And by bigger I mean more experienced, more pvp focussed.

2) Tzar'rim is exactly right. Don't try to fight a dedicated pirate PvP ship in anything that's fitted for mining. Pirates will have checked you out and decided that you're a winnable fight before they engage. If you're in a bigger ship, they'll be back with something that can take you. Bigger shiip = more points on the kilboard
If your corp is constantly at war, then maybe you're not in the right corp for your needs. It might be worthwhile taking a short break abd moving to either a different corp or an NPC corp. If your current corp is a decent one, they'll understand, let you go and invite you to return when you're ready.

seems like its your chosen corp that is the problem...
But yes, do not engage a pirate that comes after you. They do not fight fair and do not fight when there is a chance they might lose. The pirate motto is basically "If its a fair fight, you didn't plan right"

Not always true, sometimes I do just stupid stuff to see what happens, like attacking a Prophecy in a Rifter hehe. Couldn't break his tank and IF he would have fitted for pvp he could have killed me (which I expected him to do since he came after me after I nicked his ore).
