Hey all,
I've been using an SSH Tunnel with Putty to play EVE on a firewall'd network. A techie friend of mine from the graciousness of his heart set me up with it, but unfortunately, with the latest Trinity patch, I was forced to download the game from scratch after the auto-updater refused to work.
This lead to the settings within EVE that he had tinkered with to point EVE to the SSH server being wiped. I don't want to abuse this dude's goodwill, and want to learn how to set this up myself for future mishaps. So, my question is:
How can I get EVE to point itself to my SSH server instead of Tranquility? I have Putty set up and everythingùI just need the "secret code" within EVE that tells it to go to Tranquility's IP and Port number to go to mine instead. I watched him do this; I believe he modified a certain file in EVE that told it to go to Tranquility's IP, and simply changed the IP and port number. It's not the file "common" or whatever it is named (Edit to follow to check on the name)ùunfortunately that fix is too simple, and EVE refuses to run, thinking something has been corrupted. I just need to know what and where I need to modify to point EVE to my SSH tunnel.
I've searched on various SSH topics here; some are out of date, some are helpful. I wanted to ask this question though just in case anyone was using the same setup and could tell me what file I need to modify.
Thanks ahead of time.

Create a shortcut to the eve.exe (or modify your current one) add
/server:localhost
to the end of it.

Where should I add /server:localhost to the "end of" the shortcut? It won't let me rename the shortcut with those characters, nor can I see any way of modifying the shortcut via Properties with that bit of code.
Any clarifications on where I should put this and how I get there?

ok...what you need to do to do what he said is...go to the folder eve is in...right click on eve.exe create shortcut, drag that shortcut to your desktop then right click on it click properties and insert at the end of the target line /server:localhost
the line should look something like: ("G:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe" /server:localhost) includeing the quotes but NOT the ( or )
note: not meaning to sound mean or anything, but if this doesnt make sense im going to assume that english is not your native language or that computers is NOT something you find easy to understand

Lol. Thanks for the help. That does make sense, just what I needed. I actually solved the problem in a different however way by modifying the prefs.ini file; adding "server=127.0.0.1" to the end of the document's content did the trick. One has to dig in this thread to find that little gem, but it's a very informative thread:

Thanks for the help nonetheless though. I'll try this way next time.
No offense taken as to the thing about the english language. I'd hope the writing in my first post would have given away that english is indeed my native language--you're probably catching onto the fact that I'm a hardcore Mac user and am completely unfamiliar with the Windows environment. Usually though, if someone's given clear step-by-step instructions to do something, they can do it, regardless of what their native language is. ;)
