Howdy all, a couple days into the trial and i've decided to start a subscription. Most MMORPG's get boring fast for me if i can't pvp so thats what my questions are about...
How early can i start pvp'ing? I've read that frigates are good enough but im guessing i would need high tech so make them effective?
Cost... Lets take frigate warfare for now, how much is it likely to cost? Am i going to need millions or just a couple 100k isk?
Roleplaying... Yeah i like to roleplay... Are there many PvP RP corps? Corps that have a goal, treat people with respect and absolutely no smack talk.
I'm sure i can think of tons more questions but that will do for now.

It'll take you some 3-4 weeks of selective skilltraining to get decent at PvP frigate combat.

realisticly to PvP in a frigate you need very little
IT helps to have: MicroWarpDrive (buy one and check skill requirements, I think its Hi-Speed MAneuvre 1 and Navigation 4 and Afterburner 4. Cruiser missles, or at least heavys Warp disruptors (cant remember exact skill name) to lvl 1
Maybe 2weeks in you could start. If your in a good corp maybe 1 week in.

100k isk would get you started yes. If your in a big enough corp they may give you all you need for free, ShinRa does.
If you are going to be PvPign as your primary occupation, apply to join ShinRa (no promises of acceptance). We have many new players in training.

Edited by: Bad Harlequin on 13/04/2004 19:52:08 it depends entirely on how adverse you are to death.
Are you a hands-on learning by experience kinda guy (or !, anyway), or do you prefer to prepare more before making the attempt?
You can, once you have yourself at a sustainable level of income, discover what frigate is a "throwaway" for you (i.e. easily replaced several times a week) and challenge people to voluntary combat. Or cruise 0.4 looking for trouble. Or making it. Or saving people from it. As mentioned above there are certain skills/modules you should start working for right away, but imho some experience and going "man, i *really* need to be able to use ________" will tell you what to focus on admirably
Oh yeah, warp disruptors / scramblers use Propulsion Jamming, btw.
You are in a maze of twisty little asteroids, all alike. |

Have a look at the OC-academy. We teach new players the basics on PvP there and after you've been on a few ops and are doing good you can sign up with OC itself if you want. You get payed for each training mission you are on (250k per op). If interested hop into the "oc-public" channel and ask for some more info.

You might want to apply to Jericho Fraction, we're focused on frigate PVP a lot and we're centered around roleplaying. Talk to Jade Constantine ingame.

Took me about 1 week when i killed my first indy. Trained scrambler/webifier and heavy missiles. For good PvP you need alot more takes about a good month (Cruise missiles/MWD) _________________________________

I would start by upping the learning skills, spend a week or two doing that and the rest of your learning is achieved faster.

You can start within less than a week.. probably in about 4 days.. if you have a corp and want to help in fleet fight that is.
Just train caldari cruiser lvl1 and electronic warfare & propulsion jamming.. and get a Black Bird with ECM, warp scrambler, webifier..
You can totally disable almost any battleship with that.. unless they are equiped with warpstabs and backup radars.

A Blackbird requirers Caldari Cruiser II.
You mention that he should fit ECM, warp scramblers and webbers and then he can disable almost any Battleship unless they are equipped with warpstabs and backup radars.
Well, instead of making it sound simple, try either to avoid telling about it like it's that easy or tell him about sensor strenght, sensor types, ECM, ECCM and such.
Yes, he can disable just about any Battleship using the right ECM but what about Heavy Drones and FoF? I had 3 nublar pc-rats attack me last night in BB and my heavy drones made short work of them. I was not carrying FoF, my n00b mistake there.
My advice for you is to try and take some of the offers here about learning PvP via a corp. Altough both Omega Corp and Shinra are Curse scum they know what they are doing mostly.
I'd reccomend Omega Corp over Shinra. -------------------------

Yes, lvl2.. my bad.
And while what you say is true... blackbird is still the most usable in helping the fleet in such short time of training. But if you want to kill npc rats or go solo PvPing.. it's totally different story.
Getting a teacher is an excellent idea!

Seeing as how you're a Minmatar, you might want to look at Oracle Corp, Peoples Front of Minmatar, or Freelance Unincorporated as possible PvP RP corps. Although obviously, if you did hook up with them, I'd have to kill you

I lost my first frigate (Tristan) after 2 weeks of play, it was kinda hard on my wallet then, but it was worth it --

pvp you can do from the first seconds you play. pvp i more then just player vs player fighting. If not it would have been "pfvpf" (player fighting versus player fighting) and not "pvp"
pfvpf you should wait some before you start, learn to navigate, use the map, earn some isk or atleast learn a way to earn isk. Then find friend that pvp fight and start fight and learn with them.
Members in your corp you can have friendly down to armour fights with in any system with out concord comming for you (make sure you are in the same corp)
Learn the modules and how they work and not work. Learn what mods stack and what do not.
Find out how far your missiles travles, at what range your gund do damage and not. There is much to learn and noone can truly say they dont have anything more to learn in this game.
good luck pvp fighting and pvp'ing

Not smart remark.
Think about it this way:
1 twiggie can be broken easy,
20 twiggies can be broken but hard,
40 twiggies cannot be broken,
The more people, the more financial backup you have, the more people the more power you have and the more you thing as 1 massive brain. What you fail to see and learn, others will in your corp and share that info. __________________________

In other words, fill a system so there's no chance of a decent fight, right?
