I heard from some explorers that there is a slight chance of getting an escalation from a cosmic anomaly site but i never had this happen to me despite running them several times on different occasions. How small is the chance of escalation exactly and what kind of loot is to be expected if the escalation goes to the last stage?

Thats a good question...
Being a experianced explorer doing cosmic anomaly's is one of the things i have had the least experiance on, i've done around 3-4 CA's in the drone regions but none of them have esclated but i think they dont anyway in the drone regions as ccp havent added this feature yet...
But your right i have read in one of the previous patch notes that CAs have a small chance to esclate like there unknown complex counterparts...
I'm interested as well if somone could post back and tell us if you have had a CA esalate for you and was it in empire or 0.0 ? and also for what faction rats as well too..

i do alot of probing iwth my main in 0.0 sansha space and while im probing out plexs my brothers sits around in his domi and does cosmic anomalies...he got an escalation taht gave him a bookmark in a system a few jumps away and it turned out to be a 10 of 10 plex and it said sometimes the office chelm is there guarding as well (we didnt see him though) we ended up make 500 mil from it. so yes you can get some escalations and some very good ones.
EDIT: all of my isk earnings came from 19-23 tiers overseers items...one in each room from different structures and it took us a 6 man gang with a Nighthawk tanking with a logistics ship helping him

A long while back before the Trinity expansion, I had a small cosmic anomaly site found using the ship's basic scanner escalate once. It went from a small cluster of level one Guristas' ships with a handful of scenery buildings to another area within the same system containing another small cluster of level one Guristas' ships. The system was a 0.6 rating and dead ended.

Had a c/a site in a 0.1 system escalate to a nearby 0.0 system. Started with a drone c/a. Only had it happen once out of the maybe... 30 or so we've done.

Yes Ive had an escalating. It started as a 2-gate complex. Not too hard, i could have done it solo, none the less I had a buddy with me for faster killing, it was getting late on a work night. In the end I recieved a transmission saying where the next site was and I had 24 hours to get there.
Next day my buddy, myself and my fiance went to the system like 8 jumps away. I had the site as a bookmark and I warped in. Was like a normal site, open space and tankable in my phoon supported by my alt guardian.
Next site was 4 jumps back towards the first. I warped in and my phoon blew up before my alt guardian landed. We reset and called in another friend who often do plexes with us. He warped his Astarte in and against guristas it was easy tanking. My main got a cerb for frig-popping and between the domis and guardian it was easy going from there.
Next site was like 12 jumps away in another region. The Astarte warped in, he had severe problems tanking he said so we warped in fast, all of us except 1 domi crashed. He managed to put heavy maintance bots on the astarte so it survived but we lost my fiances domi (she got it back on petition). We logged back in and the rats where slow to aggro so would warp out in good order and reset. New ships, hull repaired and we went in again, this time no one crashed and we could get the rep-love on the astarte. His own 2 MAR II, 3 L solace repper from the guardian, 5 light bots from the guardian and 5 heavy bots from one of the domis stabilized him at 80% or so. We killed it all and got no officer or anything, just a dread guristas. There was no more levels.
Total loot: DG 350mm rail, DG 425mm rail, DG large shield booster, DG warp scrambler, DG iron ammo L.

That's interesting, i was expecting something with more consistent difficulty level. Thanks for the input!

Got a 10/10 escalated from an onboard scan site, was surprised to say the least.

Two weeks ago I did an onboard scan and found a cosmic anomaly (this was in Hentogaira). The anomaly was almost cleared and I got a pop up message saying my scanner had picked up something else 5 systems over. When I opened my journal I had an exploration to do in Mastakomon. It was a 4/10... no huge reward.

CA's escalate in Complexes.
These Complexes can be any difficulty, and are the same complexes as Deadspace Unknowns (not more CAs).
