some games are already in development that will cator completely to carebears only
space games
if so many people are in eve and hate pvp or any risk then they will definitely leave for these games
should ccp continue dumbing down the game at this point and making it even easier for new and risk averse players
or
should ccp remove concord while still supporting the carebear side of the game for the carebears with teeth? Trashed sig, Shark was here |

Whoa, in 4 years some new space game will come out in beta form. This will kill EVE.
EVE is constantly evolving, in the last 2 years (the time I have played) there have been several major changes, some making it better for "carebears", some making it better for "gankers".
All included it seem to have keep a balance even if each group will claim that the other as been advantaged and they have been nerfed.
The only thing that will kill EVE is to keep it static.

Assuming you were right, it would still not be dumbing down the game, it would just be the other game companies having a smarter business plan.
With that said, EVE isn't thought out as a game for your typical risk-averse player, despite a significant portion of the playerbase falling in this category. Whether CCP will change their game motto or keep the original game's intention, my guess is as good as yours.

Answer me this, why do you think that people that play Eve are remotely interested in "space games", is it because you read it in the last thread you posted in or because it applies to yourself?

I find it hard to believe that people who "hate" EvE continue to play it only because they want a spaceship game. If people think the game sucks, they won't pay to play it no matter what the theme is.
I also disagree that the game is easy for new players. Try starting from scratch with a new account, new character and no help from any of your other existing characters and then come back and talk about how it has been "dumbed down." Even then, you would still have an advantage over a real new player since you already know how things in the game works.
To sum up: your post fails on the most colossal of levels and WoW is down the hall. I suggest creating a Warlock for yourself and become leet and hardcore and stuff.

Suicide ganks always existed and thrust me all of us lost stuff to them, we learned our lesson soon enough.
ATM The only problem in EVE is that it caters too much for large groups and too less for individual effords.
If the new space MMOs put more emphasis on how good the pilot is rather than how many corp members you have then I might leave.. and thats about the only reason for me.

It's almost like what you say is utterly idiotic. Oh wait...
I'm an on and off player, and I live in Hi-sec. I'm still in the newb corps at 8mil SP. I predominantly run missions for a living. Does that make me a carebear? Probably, but I still love the PvP when it comes. I just don't have a huge amount of time to play the game, and as such prefer a steady, low risk part of the game where i can have some fun, train up, gather ISK etc. When summer comes, RL is less hectic, I'll hope to join a corp, hop into low sec and take up the pew pew.
For now though, I'm content under the perpetually watchful eye of Concord. Take them out of the game and I'll hop in my ship and play EVE PvP, simple as that. Nevertheless, it would break the game. The world would be ruled by high SP pilots, and newbies could not play eve. This doesn't need justification.
So is your suggestion idiotic? Yes it is. Is it almost like you're just waving your E-Peen around, hoping to come off as one hardco' mo' fo' with a tenuous grasp of grammar? Why yes, yes indeed.

Eve already has gameplay that ranges between both extremes of the risk spectrum.
Those who require enhanced risk, uber risk, phenomenol risk, so on...may decide to pump skills up and try to beat a 10 man megaship gate camp in a T2 friggie. Some call that stupid...others call it scraping the acceptable levels of risk.
And on the other end, players that choose to avoid risk totally can sit in a station, buy whatever skills might be available in that station (provided they have the necessary isk) and train every skill in their character sheet to level V of the course of years. There's very minimal risk involved in this and it IS a major aspect of the game (skills are handy, are they not?)...
Now...these space games you mention... What are they? Where are their webpages? Links!! I demand links!!!

I play eve because of friends and its politics, corp building etc.
Not because its a space game. I will not leave eve in 4 years for a new game, due to time invested and the buggyness a new game would have. ----

Everytime SiJira posts on EVE-O, I die a little bit inside.
Looks like I'm screwed.
To the point of the OP: SiJora, you're in an NPC corp, and always have been. What do you know about anything? It really seems like EVERY SINGLE ONE of your arguments are based off of biased posts on the forums.

I've heard that line for about four years now. Still waiting on the new space based game that's better than EVE. Or, still waiting on a new space based game... of any size or quality.

i have to say that after using up my trial period and then subscribing to the game i have become bored with it-space looks th same in almsot all systems- going to low sec to explore or to look at things gets you killed extremelly fast and also alot of corps get very verbally hostile with you threatning all sorts- The entire game needs a rethink as new ppl are discouraged from it entirelly- all the ppl i started with on my friends list have all quit due to these issues- so yeah make it a free for all game and see how quickly it dies- the suicide gankers etc etc have ruined large swaths of space as it is- noone ventures into low sec with a decent ship or anything cause of this- the OP of this post is one of many who have ruined this game for so many. Huh? |

Black Prophecy Reakktor is in charge of Neocron, wich eventually failed due to a very small player base. But it was the first MMO to feature First person shooter aiming and other fun stuff. Unfortunately, the servers were not very stable and population dropped rapidly after about 1 year. The game also had Item loot originally, wich was later nerfed due to wining.
What I am trying to say is this: The ambitions of the guys at Reakktor are good, the ideas are allright. It's just the question if they can pull it off better this time.

Edited by: StellDust on 25/03/2008 01:56:09 It is funny when some people start giving exsotic ideas. They feel strong because of years spent in train skills and want to compete not with equal to them but to newbie characters..may be because if it's not newbie or industrial character they might lose and get killed. We all know what is the difference between new players with few skills and old players with many skills at 5. Anyway, for these people I would say - there is no any problem Concord to be removed and all new players who you want to much to kill will be very happy if CCP bring some balansing - alike remove clones - if you get killed, you will really die and start as new. Then we'll see who is bigger carebear, the new players or the some full of themself old players.

Funny thing is that nearly all the smacktalk i have seen in local have been from carebears with a few exceptions from "special" corps.
However concord seems to work fine as it is.
