With all the crap thats been going on here lately, and considering the same 20 people here on the forums keep saying 'space isnt 'safe'' or 'may I have your stuff' or some other idiotic saying....there are two things that should happen.
1: Insurance should NOT be paid out to criminal acts. This is a given, it's not realistic, whether flying spaceships or driving a volvo.
2. Why cant people that are flying haulers insure the cargo? Fed Ex, UPS, and all other shipping companies offer insurance on packages according to their seemingly market value. Considering the way the contract database and ship insurance database are set up would this not be possible using the average market value or some other such baseline??
Just an idea

They insure packages because there's no reasonable expectation that the package will be destroyed or damaged. This isn't Baghdad, and it isn't New Eden. Insuring packaged items wouldn't be a sound business decision in those places.
But yes, paying insurance for ships lost in criminal acts is pretty ridiculous. They shouldn't pay for ships lost in unregulated, unlawful (i.e. 0.0) space either.

Why would this be any different than ship insurance?
Please think it through before you post

1) has been discussed many times
2) this looks easily exploitable. insure 100mil of stuff put it in a hauler take the 50% chance of it blowing up if it does well your just got 100mil but lost the stuff, if it lives you have the stuff and 100mil and you can repeat.

Okay, let me revise my previous statement. Don't pay off any insurance, period, for any ship that has a weapon fitted, no matter what caused the ship to die.

Shrug. Lots of people ask for lots of things, and CCP implements whatever they think is best/balanced/whatever.
Me, I'd like to see haulers have better defenses.
But eh, not going to happen. This is a PVP game, they want PVP to happen everywhere.

The reasons these whines exist are because the people making the whines didn't understand what EVE was about anyway. It never seemed to occur to them, despite all the warnings if they'd just look for a second, that space isn't completely safe. There is no reason to make it so much easier for them, as this would do.
That isn't to say that things shouldn't be changed in some way though. Maybe they should, but I don't know how that would work.
1) Yes and no. I personally would go with the compromise of paying out a reduced amount for criminal acts. This at least helps those who lose their ships because they were drunk and thought that the 0.5 system was actually 0.4. I know many of them.
2) Just no really. Insurance for items is a bit too complicated and pointless really. Do you pay out insurance for everything, or only what was destroyed? If you pay out for everything, then people can just take alts and destroy their indies, take the insurance and the modules that still exist. If you only pay out for destroyed things, it's unfair that you had to spend money to insure all the items, but you didn't get insurance for the items that still exist even though you lost them.
It's also not needed. Those who lose indies in high sec are generally those who weren't paying attention in the first place, or didn't take the proper precautions. Your insurance is to use a ship or setup that protects you in some way from at least lone suicide gankers, as well as not being afk. If multiple people gank you at the same time then clearly you were carrying around something pretty damn worthwhile in a very weak ship. Transport ships ftw!

If your ship is destroyed by CONCORD, no insurance for you. My personal thought. --------------------------------------
EVE is a cold, harsh world, filled with people that would kill you without a second thought. The forums are even worse. |

Well there's always the 1/100 possiblity of me freezing up in a mission whilst being neuted, scrambled and taking too much damage to tank before i can log back in. I mean that's messed up, missions should be completely safe - pls fix it CCP ...

If they allowed for anything other than T1 to be insured (and just T1 wouldn't be terribly useful) it would be either set at a painfully low rate corresponding to the advanced components or it would be tied to current market value and thus open to severe manipulation.
Then there's the issue of insurance fraud. A ship blows up, it's gone but half of it's mods survive. You can't get the insurance money for the ship without loosing it but you would get the insurance from the mods while half of them still exist. That means that if you can insure them for anything more than 50% then you can commit insurance fraud for a profit (less the fee of course).
How it would be valued aside, it would pour massive amounts of ISK into the economy where none existed before. This is called inflation and is a bad thing, m'kay.
To sum up, it's inflationary, impossible to value and open to fraud.

i laugh every time i see these.. 'getting rich with 0 risk'.. realy... how many tones of Veld do you have to mine to be 'rich'?.. how many tones of Scordite?.. Pyrite?... the ocasional 1 or 2 rocks that are actualy omber?
Now how quickly do you get rich mineing the rocks in a 0.2 or 0.0 system?.. A hole heck of alot quicker than you do mineing in 'safe space'. Why do you think they place those 'high value' rocks in the wild-lands?.. the risk-vs-reward. The only 'risk' there should be in 0.5 and above is from Belt rats, scammers, and the ocasional War-dec.
What i'd love to see is the Payed for insurance on any ship that commits a criminal act in high sec space be revoked and the ship owner getting a nice "were sorry but the insurance payout for your ship is being witheld by the insurance company as our records show you commited a criminal act which forced Concord to destroy yoru ship." Message in their eve-mails. Either that or simply make all combat between ships in 0.5 or above space literaly impossible unless war-decked. --------------------------------------------- "Only two great species on this planet take part in massive, organized warfare. Your wasting your time, they've been saying that crap for so long they actually believe it.
But like one dude said in another thread: the jokes on them, or will be if the Empire ganks keep up and people start quitting.

*shrugs* so ask them to move lv 4 missions out into low sec. Last i checked though it wasnt lv 4 mission running BS groups in high sec getting suicide ganked it was the mining barg sitting next to a veldspar roid. --------------------------------------------- "Only two great species on this planet take part in massive, organized warfare. i guess you havent heard of Shinra and TRI doing it (i think it was those 2.. sorry if wrong)
they are ganking high sec mission runners
and i would agree... move all lvl 4 missions to low sec.
i ran mission there for 1,5 years... the rewards are alot higher anyways allready :)
you get like 12000 lp per mission and more isk and better loot from rats ---------------------------------- This is Me, fighting stupidity one post at a time. PS: There are no computer BUGs, there is stuff called "Random Features"

Yep, seen TRI in small packs of gank BS (Megas, Ravens, Geddons) sitting around mission hub gates. And if they're not there on the way back, there's often a nice laggy CONCORD blob sitting in the gate they used to be on. Considering that DS-fitted Ravens can have 2B+ in shield booster+amp alone, and then more millions in faction/DS hardeners, launchers and BCUs, I'm surprised this didn't become common earlier. Not sure about Shinra though.
I never really took much notice of them though, my Dominix has maybe 50m in potential loot drops, a good chunk of that in drones. It's not worth the effort when there are juicy CNRs and Marauders flying around. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

Newb buys new ship, fits it, and insures it. Newb does not have money left to replace ship but that's ok because he has insurance.
Newb does something stupid, cause that's what newbs do, and loosed ship to concord.
Newb is now broke, rants, and quits.
How do you eliminate insurance from concord kills while not overly punishing newbs? The aggression system is highly complex and newbs get popped by concord while they learn.
