I have been playing eve for about 7 months and am starting to look into the pvp aspect of Eve. I normally fly a drake and I am training for a Cerberus atm ( which I heard was ****) . Any Caldari pvp pilots that view this post your pvp ship and the setup you use . Thanks

A very good example of caldari pvp is the Vigil + Caracal duo.(or Hyena + Cerb if you prefer).
Or a nanoed ham-cerb. Or a gang of drakes with remote reppers and some tackler. Or a kestrel with a medium shield extender and rockets. Or a gang of cormorants. Endless options.

Caldari pvp fun for super gang excellence:
CROW: 3 standards, MWD, warp disruptor, web/small extender/cap recharger, 2 overdrives, nano. Orbit at full speed, turn everything on, wait. Avoid matari recons, af's and other inties unless you're prepared to learn how to dogfight (which is harder in a Crow than in other 'ceptors strangely enough).
FALCON: Covops cloak, recon probe launcher, sensor booster, jammers, jammers, jammers, sig amps, ecm range rigs. Engage at 200km, jam everything you see. Don't let anything get within scram range. Probe stuff out while cloaked.
HARPY: 4 75mm rails, med extender, warp disruptor, web, afterburner, damage mod, tracking amp. Shoots down pretty much all inties and drones while doing decent enough dps with faction AM on larger targets in a gang.
ROKH: Neutron blasters, neutron blasters, neutron blasters, ECCM, extenders, invuls, damage mods, damage control, PDS, shield extender rigs, ECM drones. Lock target, turn guns on, wait. Ungodly amounts of win.
DRAKE: Either tank it to hell and back while leaving enough room for a disruptor OR pack it with HAM's, a MWD and damage mods for something a little unexpected. Nobody really expects a 650dps Drake and reputation for being ungodly hard to kill pretty much stops you being primary until they realise what you're shooting with.
Those are pretty much my mainstays as far as Caldari ships go, although you can do well with a Manticore, Raven, Scorp, Nighthawk, Eagle and Cerb under the right conditions. It goes without saying that you're gonna have a REAL hard time solo with a Caldari ship. In gangs though, a well setup Caldari ship fulfilling its role is more than worth its weight.
That Cerberus you're training for really spoils the day of anyone flying a Vagabond, Huginn or Rapier. "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" |

Please tell me you're joking.
And recommending the harpy? AF's are bloody rubbish particularly the caldari ones. Are you trying to get this guy killed?
Caldari missile boats are king of pve and while torp ravens can be effective, on the whole I'd shy away from their "dps" ships. Focus on what caldari do best.
The Falcon and Scorpion are unbelievable e-war boats.
The Crow is a solid tackler.
If dps and range is your deal - their sniper boats just received a bit of a boost. Ferox/Vulture are nasty - and Eagle is now the cruiser class sniping king.
Basically, outside of ravens with target painters and torps... don't bother going the direct damage route with this race. Use their range, e-war skills, and massive passive tanks, that's what they do best.
If you want damage go amarr, gallente, or start training torps 5.
Good luck.

Gank drake is the only way to fly, if I catch anyone with a passive tanking drake with less than 3 BCU's in Insurgency they get kicked.
Neutron Rokh is fantastic.
Cerberus is a brilliant nano killer when used in conjunction with web and everything else you need to counter a nanogang.
As a rule Caldari pvp is gang based and currently its very balanced. If you know anything about me then you'll know I whine like hell for Caldari (all of it valid of course :P) and currently the race is doing very nicely. There is even solo application for some of the gunboats that have just been boosted. --------------- you all smell! |

No, I don't engage cerbs in any other HAC. Well, I engaged a Cerb once, but only because I had a pair of battleships coming in behind me.
It's fruitless. I'll lose my drones and quite possibly run away in armor/structure.

HAM Drake = PWN, just FYI.
I'm not saying that you're "wrong", I'm merely pointing out that telling people to train away from Caldari is kinda silly. Their ships perform as well as the player behind them allows, though I will admit that Caldari have a certain predisposition towards gangs. :)

Vaga's laugh their ass off at cerbs, sacrileges tank them all day long, zealots can stay out of scram range, do MUCH more dps, and can actually snipe. Demios... well. No actual experience cerb versus deimos 1v1, but I imagine it'd manage to outclass the cerb similarly. I spot a cerb on scanner, my mouth starts to water, I load EM ammo. Easy kill.
I didn't tell people to train away from caldari. I merely pointed out their strengths and urged them to explore those. Range, sniping, e-war, etc. Not direct damage. I am not trolling the race, merely pointing out its limitations.
And as for the "ham" drake. All that grid and nerfing your range significantly for 50 more dps? Are you kidding me?
Stressing dps on ANY non-capital missile boat other than a torp raven makes my head want to explode in frustration.
Caldari are the kinds of sniping and the kings of e-war.
Conversely they are the slowest race with the fewest utility meds AND have **** dps.
Balance in all things and all that. Stress what the race does well - and pursue that. Don't waste isk and sp on making a drake or cerb into a dps boat.

Edited by: welsh wizard on 25/03/2008 03:34:13 If a Cerberus pilot is unable to make a vagabond pilot leave the field before the vagabond pilot breaks the cerberus tank then I'm afraid that Cerberus pilot is deficient in brain capacity or hasn't fit their ship correctly. Of course the Cerb can generally only make the vaga leave and not actually kill it but sadly thats a price Caldari ships pay and after years of it you have to just accept that thats the way it is.
The Sacrilege is a different matter because its about the only HAC that can easily sustain its MWD thus largely nullifying heavy missile damage (boosting precision heavy missiles inline with other precision missiles would help CCP, ta). The Ishtar can generally burn for long enough to kill a Cerb too but 0% EM resists with a nano setup is a big disadvantage. The Cerberus is a good gangship, maybe overshadowed by the Drake slightly but still good at what it does. --------------- you all smell! |

A "ham" cerb as people have been discussing? Good luck finding precision hams. Also good luck getting a f'ing shot off as the vagabond has you jammed with e-war drones.
Heavy missiles cerb's dps is f'ing pathetic. It's "med range" remember? A properly kit vaga can outlast even a t2 precision fit cerb. (drones and your brain are key.)

See my above post regarding vaga's versus cerbs.
The sacrilege (my current solo fun ship) loaded with caldari navy torrents (the aforementioned EM ammo) will rip right through your cerb, tank your pathetic dps, and have time for a snack while trolling you in local.
I AM dissing the cerb rather hard - but not any of the pilots defending it. I used to as well years earlier, when it was an extremely effective anti-frig platform. Sadly, the Drake and Sacrilege have made it worthless. Why bother getting in a cerb as compared to either of the aforementioned ships or a falcon? So many better caldari ships to choose from, why bother with the worst hac in game?
I'm not one to beat around the bush. The cerb is the worst hac all around - and has been for quite some time. Waste your isk on another ship.

If the Cerberus has HAM's fit then they're fit for gang and therefore should have other people in tow. If they're trying to solo in a HAM cerb without a nanofit then sadly they're just flying the wrong ship for the task.
I'm not denying that Caldari are gimped when fighting alone or in direct comparison to other races ships of same class but you have to play to their strengths. Ie,, being in a gang. --------------- you all smell! |

Further: it's easy to look at the Sacrilege and think "wow thats amazing, it can run its mwd while firing missiles" but the reality is it doesn't nano that well. It's tank is featherweight when nano'd and while Cerberus' may be slightly buggered a decent Vaga (for example) will chew the Sac to shreds through clever transversal adjustment.
The Sacrilege comes into its own as a solo ship if and its a very big IF it can get its target webbed. If it manages that its target is going to die a very slow death unless it has neuts fitted. So once again Eve gives us a ship that is very strong in one area but has very definite weaknesses. Believe it or not thats why the game is as good and interesting as it is.
If you can't fathom this then I suggest you sign upto the same psychiatrist as that Lyria Skydancer chap and campaign for a bland boring gaming experience in which everything and everyone is the same. --------------- you all smell! |

2 poly's, 2 overdrives, 2 mar's, 1 active thermal hardner, 1 damage control or EANM. 4500 with gang mods while being able to run those dual reppers. roughly 80% resistances across the board.

Apparently I have "no clue," but I will tell you the drake is the slowest bc, has the worst dps, and only "upside" is a massive tank (sacrificing its utility meds.) Load HAMS on it and you've cut your range by 75% for roughly 50 more dps. Brilliant move there chief. You've also lost your precision heavies (frig defense.) Another brilliant move. I'll bet all those properly fit 'bingers, hurricanes, and myrmidons just FLEE from your scary drake.
If you don't' like my opinions on caldari, tell me why. I've been flying them for about 4 years now and probably have more sp than you. Prove me wrong. Don't attack me.

Well, no, I was flying with T2 HML's when I engaged the the BC gang. IIRC, though, the difference in T2 HML and T2 HAM is 150 DPS or so... which is very impressive.

Earlier in this thread, someone said "there are no **** ships, there are just **** players". There is a strong element of truth to this.
Now, that said, we have told you why your opinions on Caldari are (at best) dated. Caldari are a very solid race in gangs, and are fairly impressive solo if you play to your strengths.

slowest bc, maybe it is but you have 20km range with your short range weaponry, compare that to blasters or AC which loose much dmg in falloff. even then javelin hams do still about 5% more dps then normal heavies :)

Not "kill" tackle. You get tackled, you die - even if you're a giant HP brick.
Concerning range, you can't dictate it. Ever. Against anything. Slightly annoying, no?
People, caldari does many things right - dps (outside of torps) is not one of them. Stop trying to argue otherwise, it's quite foolish.

Well it only has 5 lows so you can strike off the DCU or the thermal hardener. If you drop the DCU its resists are 70/78/72/85 on 2400 armour. With a cap booster (400) it can sustain 1 rep which is knowhere near enough to kill a vagabond before it kills you. With both reps running it'll cap out in about 50s (as you can only load 2 charges).
As I said before a Cerberus is likely buggered because heavy missiles & ham's are gimped against anything remotely speedy. --------------- you all smell! |

Originally by: Angelonico My friend, caldari are a VERY solid race. Never said otherwise, just dogged some of their weaker ships (mainly the Cerberus.) Focus on the races strengths as opposed to what they do poorly (dps, speed, etc.) That is all I'm positing.
Then why are you not suggesting that we use a Cerberus as part of a gang while utilising its huge range advantage? A role it performs admirably. Yes missiles take time to travel but one of the assumptions you make is that if you're part of a gang the target is rendered immobile. In this role the Cerberus performs better than any other HAC and it is by no means a niche role.
edit: btw you sound exactly like I did before the recent improvements to Caldari. You're also basically the same age as me specialising almost exclusively in Caldari pvp! Are you my alt!? I fly Amarr hacs too though.
I'd rather be in a falcon, curse, sacrilege, christ - ANYTHING in a gang besides the cerb.
