I'd like to propose a T2 mining/recon cruiser, meant for mining in hostile environments. Low-sec is dieing, and pirates are sad. I'd like to mine in low-sec, but Barges and Exhumers just won't cut it. It takes them an hour to align and it takes them even longer to get to full speed.
What I'd like to see is something like the current recon cruisers, where you get a large CPU reduction for cloaking devices, but rather than bonuses for EW and cyno, give the ship a reduction in mining laser cycle time and a larger cargo bay. The mining capacity should be roughly equivalent to that of a T1 mining cruiser (Osprey, Vexor, etc) but it should be able to mine faster.
I know it sounds goofy, I'm just trying to figure out a way to get people to mine in low-sec. Us miners don't come to low-sec because we're sitting ducks in our barges and T1 cruisers. This would give us a fighting chance and give the pirates something to shoot at, rather than shooting at eachother.

Or.. and here's the crazy suggestion, don't go solo mining in low-sec? Just a thought.

Some people mine in a Rokh, a Caldari BS.
You can mine all five minerals (tritanium, isogen, pyerite, Nocxium, Mexallon) in high sec. Megacyte and Zydrine is low-sec, mining those solo is a recipe for having your ship handed to you in a trashbag (I speak from experience).
Ores in low-sec are also very low yield. You can get a shipful of ore and realize you could have mined in high-sec without the hassle and made more Isk to buy zydrine or megacyte than actually mining them yerself.
The game mechanics are stacked against solo anything in low-sec. Either find friends or join a corp.

Low sec mining is called "ratting". I get better mineral returns ratting in a bc than if I left a few retriever (or bc) wrecks in some belt.
