Hello all,
I've been saving up and training to get my first cruiser. I'm a Caldari and spec'd for gunnary and missiles. I have some points in Electronics and Engineering as well (plus other minor areas). I'm currently in a Kestrel, so I'm used to using missiles.
The Caracel looks like a nice ship, but I was wondering if I am making a mistake to buy it as compared to another Caldari cruiser. I'm looking for using it for mostly PVE now and possibly some PVP later.
Thoughts in general? And also thoughts on missiles vs. turrents.

Caracel
Sorry, it's named Caracal.
For PvE, the caracal works perfectly fine. You have the choice between using assault missile launchers that will wreck all frigates and cruisers in lvl 2 missions and when you have enough skills, you can make lvl 3 missions with heavy missiles.
For PvP, it's a cheap and versatile cruiser for gangs, but absolutely not for solo PvP. (anyway, solo PvP rarely happens, you get pwned by a gang while you're alone, that's all)
The moa is more expensive and much harder to use in missions... -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

Edited by: MACCHES on 25/03/2008 15:51:21 You cannot go wrong with the Caracal!
It is a great entry-level Cruiser (loads better than a Osprey). Once you have Standard Missiles III and Light Missiles III, you can train up Heavy Missiles.
Once you have Heavy Missiles trained the Caracal really comes into its own territory, with great DPS potential. If you liked the Kestrel due to its ability to function as a missile platform, you wont be disappointed by the Caracal. It's a great upgrade from Kestrel.
Fit it with Inertial Stabilisers, a decent 10MN afterburner, and maybe an Overdrive Injector and you have yourself a speed-launcher --------------------------- **Insert Pirate-themed remark** |

Thanks for the comments. I will go ahead and grab one then (well once the two days of training finally finishes).

Never buy a ship for making ISK and plan on using it for PvP. It is generally a good idea to keep at least one money making ship safe on the side and buy pvp ships specifically to pvp in, as they WILL be exploding sooner or later (most likely sooner). -=^=-

Billy,
So, is the Caracal still okay for PVE? Just when I decide to start PVP, I should make sure I have a seperate ship for PVP (whatever the ship is).

The Caracal is fine for L2 missions or low-sec ratting (as long as you watch out for pirates, but that's another issue); just make sure to fit a good shield tank and heavy missiles on it, keep range if possible, and missile spam to your heart's content. When you are ready to PvP, you can buy yourself a second Caracal and fit it for PvP, while keeping your original one as a moneymaker so as to not destroy your means of making money.
